2-34pm
I remember watching Andy Stanley’s series on Time and one of the things he remarked on, is that when you get to late 40s early 50s, you suddenly wake up to the great insight of the rapid passing of time. If I have to capture the panic of the moment it would be in this phrase: “Time is running out!” No longer are we on the up and coming side of life, we are on the slippery down and going slide of life! It’s a strange shift from collecting stuff to trying to get rid of stuff….from building a home, to trying scale down. I have had flashbacks to my younger years and a wished that I appreciated them more! In digging deep to think back to those times, for most of it, I did appreciate them. In the same way, I suddenly woke up to the fact, that in 30 years time, when I am 80, I will look back at 50 and wish I had appreciated these years more!
If you are in your 20s or 30s, this is for you!
Yesterday afternoon, it all came together in crystal clear clarity….so much so that I scribbled it down and put it in my Bible. The truth be told, regardless of any uncertainty about the future…
It’s being grateful for what you have and not what you don’t have. It’s an appreciation of NOW, today, it’s counting your blessings this moment. It’s capturing each day and thanking God for all He has done for you, because everything we have comes from Him. Focus on the good, leave the bad. That’s why I like photos so much is because you don’t take photographs of bad stuff – of people crying or people dying. You take photos of happy stuff – of family together and friends laughing. Photography captures the blessings of life….Mike and I just married, leaving our wedding on honeymoon…(August 1986)
One year later, 5 months pregnant with Stacey…nursing graduation dinner.
December 1987…Stacey’s first photo…she was 4 days old…can you believe it? It took FOUR DAYS to take a photo! How grateful I am that we did…
Count your blessings. Don’t let a day go by that you don’t. You want to get to 50 and be grateful. I want to get to 60 and be jubilant. I want to get to 70 and be ecstatic. I want to get to 80 and be overwhelmed with gratitude towards God for 4 score years of blessings. God is faithful. Trust Him with all your heart. He’ll never let you down.
Psalm 36:5
“Your love O Lord, reaches to the heavens, your faithfulness to the skies.”
In the light of the death of Phillip Hughes in a cricket accident, living life to the full takes on a whole new meaning. Life is fragile. Live this life as if you will reach 100. Give it all you’ve got. Take care of yourself, body, mind and spirit. If you end up ‘dying’ sooner, you’ll have just reached your ultimate destination earlier and with heaven in your sights, that’s not a bad thing at all. Live life intentionally!
Keep the smile going!
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
Gratitude Pic…I was going through my phone’s camera deleting photos. Some of them I couldn’t delete because they gave me pleasure….this was one…
