If We Look For The Joy, We Will Find It

What if I get a day that is so ordinary and non descript that I cannot write on it or about it? That’s sort of how I feel about today as I try to dig deep for inspiration. I am juggling a few things which are keeping my life happily busy. I’ve got work. I’m busy reading/editing David’s thesis (up to page 16 out of 43 pages – that’s the first chapter) and I’ve just received the titles of the blogs I have to write on the Maldives.

So there is a bit whirling around in my head that doesn’t give rise to much creativity.

So….I’ll start by talking about the Maldives and see where this goes…

I’ve had for a while, probably about a year, a nice little job of writing each month about the Maldives. The blogs are for a company that promotes upmarket Maldivian hotels and resorts, so all that I write about is way up in a price bracket of which I am not accustomed. Sometimes I am on the resort websites and I’ll put in random dates and get quotes for staying at them. They are eye-wateringly high prices. I once ventured to dare mention visiting the Maldives on a budget and was asked to remove it!  🙂 I’m a budget girl!

It is possible to go to the Maldives on a budget and I think will be equally as enjoyable, but my opinion is really that you don’t need to go that far to enjoy an experience that includes majestic views and stunning sunsets.

If you are in Cape Town, look here: sunset over Fish Hoek

People come from ALL over the world to experience this…

We get to live here.

I’m a great believer in looking for the small joys in every day life. They are all around us, from simple shapes or colours of flowers, to the softness of the white sand on the beach; from startling blue sky to fluffy white clouds; from old grainy photos containing happy memories to cell phone snaps of recent events. Our life is filled with small pleasures that give unexpected joy if we stop to notice them.

If we look for the joy, we will find it.

I think that is the secret. It would be easy for me to look at all I write about the Maldives and get all unhappy about the fact that I don’t have $900 to spend per night bed and breakfast for a holiday there.

It’s about looking at what I do have and not what I don’t have.

I am an optimist, but believe it or not,  I am not joyful and happy all the time. I also need to work on it.

I didn’t have any inspiration for today’s blog, but here it is. For me it is a good reminder to be sure to look for the joy and to know that I will find it.

Matthew 7:7-8

Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.…
