If I’m Going To Live To 90….

….how it will it change how I live my life today? That’s a good question to ask!  It’s exactly 453 months today that I will turn 90! How am I going to spend those 453 months?

It took me out the box a bit, in thinking of how I will live my life over the next 37 and three quarter years. What would I change. How will I live my life today if I am going to live to 90?

90

1.Stay healthy! If I am going to get to 90, I’m really want to be healthy along the way, so keeping moving is important. Take the calcium, exercise, stay off sugar.

2. Watch the money. 90 is a long way to go and it is way into old age. While I’m now 52 (and three months), I am mentally active, confident in my working ability, capable of earning and have a great job,  but my ability to work will diminish as I get older. I need to prepare for that now. Save, diversify assets – don’t put all my eggs in one basket – don’t spend too much. Don’t be too stingy but be sensible.

3. Don’t sweat the small stuff. There are going to be irritations along life’s way and what is important for me is to see the bigger picture. Today I was irritated. I booked the hotel for an upcoming trip to Durban and this morning I was emailed to say the interviews had changed venue. I had booked at the interview hotel and when I had booked, I got the cheapest rate conditional to no changes or cancellations. I’m stuck with it. In the long run this is a very small irritation.  Fortunately, the current hotel I’m staying at is bed only, so I’ll leave early and breakfast at the interview hotel.  With 90 in my sights, I will try and stress less over little issues like this one.

4. Keep good relationships with everyone. Time passes by and it’s best to leave happy footprints behind you. I want to try and make friends and keep them.

5. Simplify. Looking after stuff is hard work. I want to reduce and become more  of a minimalist.  Live with less stuff. It makes it easier to keep control.

6. Keep the faith. There is only one Foundation that has stood the test of time. Appropriately, Psalm 90:1-2 says,

Lord, you have been our dwelling place
    throughout all generations.
Before the mountains were born
    or you brought forth the whole world,
    from everlasting to everlasting you are God.

It was Edward Mote who lived from 1797 to 1874 and who wrote:

My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus’ blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus’ name.
On Christ, the solid Rock, I stand;
All other ground is sinking sand.

If I am to live to 90, I need that solid Rock each and every day of the next 453 months.

If I don’t live to 90 but aim for it, making these my goals, a pretty good life I will live, regardless of when the end comes!

#189 of my 1000 thanks today is for faith to believe in Jesus. There is no greater Foundation.

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
