“I Want To Give My Life To Jesus”

4-32pm

My main job is to present the Rise & Shine show 6-9am Monday to Friday on CCFm 107.5 Cape Town wide. The aims of the show are to bring the Light of Jesus to a dark world and to encourage those who follow Christ. Two years ago today on 3rd June 2010, at 7-45am, my studio phone rang and a young girl was on the other end. She was not live on air. There was music playing. She said she wanted the prayer line (we have a dedicated line if listeners want prayer). I started to give her the number when she told me she had tried to call that number and there was no reply. On a Thursday, the prayer friend on duty goes out for a short while to pray with the police at the police station just up the road, so it was possible she hadn’t yet returned. I suggest to the caller, whose name was Carlyn, that she call back after 8am. She told me she started work at 8am and couldn’t phone then. So, I HAD to deal with whatever her need was. I looked at my music count and had about 5 minutes before I had to go live. I asked her what she needed prayer for. She replied, “I want to give my heart to Jesus.” “Oh Wow!” I said, “That’s great! What has brought you to this point?” She said, “I’ve been thinking about it for a while. Then I was on the train this morning and the preacher said I had to make a decision one way or the other. I couldn’t put it off. So when I got to work, I phoned you!” With my co-presenter sitting wide-eyed opposite me, hearing God’s grace unfold at that moment in time, I bowed my head, and closed my eyes and prayed a sinner’s prayer, with Carlyn praying after me! What a miracle!

After the prayer, I took down her mobile phone number & we said goodbye. That was 2 years ago today. Most months since then on the 3rd of the month, I have dropped her a text message to say I’m thinking of her. When I called her last year and we reflected on the call, she said that she had been in tears when she had hung up. It has not been an easy journey for her, but she’s hanging onto God and is still following after Him.

I have always felt privileged that I got that call. It is the highlight of my broadcasting career. TGBTG!

Romans 10:13 “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”

Today has been quiet and peaceful. I woke after 7am and by 8am was in the kitchen making breakfast for Granny. Then I showered and Mike & I left Granny lying in bed and went to church. When we got back she was making her bed. I got her dressed, assembled Sunday lunch and the family and an early lunch was enjoyed. This afternoon, I have done show prep and we are currently watching Djokovitch duke it out with Seppi at Roland Garros. When this is over we’ve got the final disc in the 2nd series of Downton Abbey.

A fun way to end the weekend.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga x 🙂
