Home & Weighed!

Friday

Dear Elsie

Today we got home! I woke up really early and looked out the cabin door to see the faint shadows of mountains! We were so close to home. It was soon light enough to take a photo. By then we had passed Noordhoek and were heading along the coast towards Camps Bay…

Coming up to Table Mountain and Lion’s Head…this was 5:05am…

Soon we were in Table Bay and the iconic view came into sight.

We asked someone to take a photo of us…

We had breakfast and then it was time for us to disembark.  I took one last photo from our balcony…

We had selected the self assist option, so we got to the onboard meeting point at 6:30am. We finally got off at about 7:20am. Were in an uber shortly thereafter and arrived home at 8am. That’s the way to do it!

Today has been a day of settling back in. We came home to the place spic and span thanks to both David and Ruth. Ruth is Courage’s wife and she has been kept busy over the last month keeping the units clean as guests have come and gone. Guests arrived today and more tomorrow.

For 40 nights I didn’t have my favourite fruit – Pawpaw – so when we went shopping, that was the first item I put in my trolley.

I took a walk to the end of the street and marvelled at how the house being built had grown. It’s enormous. Talking of growth. We had some of our own. Courage and Brian had done a huge amount of excavation behind. It’s completely changed and the view from up there is amazing. And remember this… on 17th August…

Which had grown to this by 3rd October?

Look at it now!

The rain we have had today has helped. It’s poured down and the top tanks are 3/4 full. We are grateful for an amazing holiday. Oh and I only gained a couple of kilos. My favourite jeans of all time which I left behind (because they are old) are slightly snug, so I have some cutting back to do, but they still fit.

It’s been a good day back. I will sleep well tonight. We have been on a long journey.

Cape Town to Doha 7453km
Doha to Milan 4427 km
Milan to Varenna and back 146km (+100km to St Moritz)
Milan to Venice 271km
Venice to Cape Town by ship – 7595 nautical miles (14065km)

Psalm 4:8
In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, LORD, make me dwell in safety.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran, xxx 🙂
