Sunday
I did not sleep too well last night. It was hard to ignore the vibrant serenade of Swellendam toads. They produced a strange combination of what sounds like the squawk of an Egyptian goose followed quickly by a regular frog croak and it went on and on and on. Suddenly they stopped. Peace. But there was not guessing how long it would take before they started their unconventional night-time chirping. They picked their moment. 2am. I wondered what got them started. It was most bizarre. I eventually went back to sleep to be woken at just after 6am by the neighbourhood alarm cock. Cock-a-doodle doo! There was nothing strange about it. Routine rooster!
After saying a warm goodbye to the family, we were on our way not long after 8am. We stopped for coffee at the Fresh Stop in Caledon where I engaged with the coffee-makers about “the game”. That got them started. While Mike waited in the car, they regaled us with stories of both cheering South Africans and mortified Englishmen both who had passed by shortly after the game. My coffee came…with a pretty good semblance of a springbok!
We drove up to the house at about 11-20am and were greeted by a very happy Truffles. She was hungry and eager for some attention. Stacey had turned an old jersey that belonged to my Mom into a cushion. It was so sentimental I couldn’t bring myself to give it away. We bought it back with us and put it on the couch. Truffles figured it was for her…
And definitely approved!
Thanks Stacey. I love it!
In the afternoon, we slept for a couple of hours before getting up and walking to Echo. The last time we were here was Thursday evening. The workers worked both Friday and Saturday. We noticed a difference. This is Mike standing at the far end of the bottom floor which will be a storeroom/ laundry area.
And just as a record of the site at this stage, I recorded a 5 minute video…
Walking back home, I got a cramp in my toe, so stopped to give it a quick massage. What a view from the Pritchard steps in Fish Hoek…
Certainly we live in a beautiful city.
We went home via Fish Hoek adding a kilometre to our walk. A lovely weekend has ended. It was a joy to see Stacey and Adrian and Elsie.
Ephesians 2:10
We are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
