Heaven is our Real Home

When I read the news and see some of the stories making headlines across the world, the one thing that comes to mind with great comfort, is that this world in which we dwell is not our forever home. Heaven is our real home. We are just passing through.

Philippians 3:20

But we are citizens of heaven, where the Lord Jesus Christ lives. And we are eagerly waiting for Him to return as our Savior.

The world has actually gone crazy. Apart from the anger and violence that pervades our world, there is the bizarre that is becoming more and more prevalent. Socially, everyone has to be so careful what they say – there is hyper-sensitivity at so many different levels.  And there is no peace in politics anywhere on the planet. Everyone opposes everyone in all spheres.

I love watching a family in our neighbourhood.  They’re not married. The Mom has a colourful array of tattoos. The Dad, until recently, had very long hair which he used to put in a “manbun”. He works outside the country in a very hot environment and recently, it all got too much for him, so he cut his hair. He looks much better. They have two delightful children. A boy and a girl. The boy can be seen riding his bike in jeans and a jersey. The cutest little girl tags along after him waddling around in the sweetest dress. There’s no mistaking their gender. The Mom is vegan, so the whole family eats vegan. I’ve got no problem with this. They are a modern family unit who are law-abiding citizens and who are great neighbours. We get along just fine.  They are just trying to get along in the world, finding themselves, making their lives work and raising their family. It’s all good. But if they had to start picketing in the street because their neighbour is braaiing meat, it may change the way we all feel about them.

Because they are sensitive to us and we to them, we all get on. It’s a pity that this attitude can’t be multiplied the world over.

Instead, I look at the craziness and am glad that this is not our forever home. One day I will head on off to heaven and there it will be perfect.

Until then, I need to keep my eyes focused on the right goal. Billy Graham turned 99 last week. He has the right idea….

His son, Franklin Graham gave an update on his Dad back in July…

Here he is on a Ted Talk from 1998(his 80th year), where he says he feels his time is brief.  I needed to hear this. This has been a good day because I listened to this. It added value to my life and gave me a more eternal perspective.

#475 of my 1000 thanks….is for the life of Billy Graham. What a man who God bought to this world 99 years ago. It can’t be easy for him at this stage of his life. I pray for him.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
