Today was a red letter day! Mike and I drove through to the College of Music for what will be possibly the last time in a very long time. It was David’s final Master’s performance recital. These things are SO extremely stressful.
There was a room with a piano and a guitar stand and a few chairs. There was us, his parents who came because we wanted to support him. There was James Grace his guitar teacher. And there were the judges. And on this hot sunny February day we gathered at 12 noon in this non air conditioned room.
David and his accompanist Alex arrived and to a round of applause they took their seats and the melody began.
Half an hour of amazing music followed. To my untrained ear it was brilliant, but the judges hear more. They sit with the score on their lap and they see every chord and key note pass and can assess just how accurate he is to the composition. Extreme pressure!
But he did it!
It was so wonderful that it was over. He can now say he has officially completed half of his Masters in Music and now “all” he has to do is complete his thesis, hand that in by the month end, do the corrections and boom! He will be the most qualified family member that this family has every had! 🙂
So grateful!
Here is David, Alex the pianist who accompanied him and James Grace, David’s famous guitar teacher!
#199 of my 1000 thanks is that David’s guitar recital went OK, even though he has flu.
To the generation not yet born, that was what happened today!
And in and around this exciting event, my work continued to unfold. After 14 hours of it on Monday and 10 hours yesterday, Â the preparatory work has been done and it’s time now to move onto planning for the interviews for Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday in Johannesburg, Cape Town and Durban respectively.
So my life is never dull! While my commute is short (across my bedroom to my study) and I often sit here quietly watching the birds fight over their juice and the cars pass by the in peak hour traffic, beyond my screen my work unfolds thanks to the buzz of the internet. What a remarkable thing that I have been able to sit at home, earn money online and not meet any of my colleagues! I see them on Skype, we email back and forth, but real live meetings have not yet happened. Maybe one day they will! 🙂  There is never any drama! Love that.
Psalm 34:18
The Lord is close to the broken-hearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
There may be heart-ache, pain and anxiety. God sees it all.
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
