We will only know in eternity if our earthly birthdays have any significance or celebration. Today, had my Mom lived, she would have turned 80, so she is on my mind today. We would have celebrated joyfully. If she had lived, she would have seen some hard times in the family, including the tragic loss of my older brother. She died in January 2004, just short of her 72nd birthday. My love for scrabble and word games, I get from my Mom. Julian regularly comments on how much like her I am when it comes to word games. She was crazy about them and I follow in her footsteps.
Today, after I finished at CCFm, David & I went out for lunch…
There in the restaurant was a scrabble board! So we put in our order and set about playing…scrabble and salad…
We had a fine, fiercely competitive game with no hints given and no mercy shown. 😉 Game over…
Happy Birthday Ma. I miss you! One day I will see you again and that brings me great joy!
The day has been cool and clear…this is Muizenberg Beach from outside CCFm…
…and this is Muizenberg Park with the Mountain in the background…
So today’s blog has been wrapped up early. I’ve been reading through the book of Luke in the New Testament. In Luke 20 vs 38, Jesus says of God, “He is not the God of the dead, but of the living, for to Him all are alive.”
It’s a profound thought. Those that have passed on are not dead. They are alive. They are just not here. But what about those who did not believe in Jesus. Where are they, you may ask? The Bible says they are apart from Christ – they have gone to a Christ-less eternity. What kind of hell that is and how it is going to work, I don’t know, but what I do know is this: (2 Peter 3:9) “The Lord is not slow in keeping His promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.”
My Mom rejoices today. So does my Dad and my Brother and the many other folk I know who have gone on before. One day, in many years to come, I will join them and the celebration will be great! I hope YOU will be there too. Come and look for me and we’ll catch up!
I am not afraid of death, it is merely a passageway to a wonderful new world, far better than this one. I can’t wait to get there!
In His Grip,
Love Helga xx 🙂
