Halaal Hot Cross Buns!

7-07pm

I have lost count how may e-mails I have received regarding Woolworths Hot Cross Buns being halaal. I went down to the Mall to have a look at the offending Easter treats…

And there on the back was what the fuss was all about…the halaal logo…

People are circulating an email complaining to Woolies about the halaal logo saying how can they possibly put this Muslim sign on a Christian product. Woolworths have written back saying it just is an indication that Muslims can eat the product. But for some this is not good enough and they are saying “‘boycott Woolworths until after Easter.” For me, this is a bit of a ‘storm in a teacup.’ So what if Hot Cross Buns end up being purchased by Muslims? I think it’s a very clever way of getting the Cross of Jesus  into a Muslim home. Perhaps one of the consumers may just look at them and wonder what the cross is all about. I’m not offended and don’t see what the big deal is.  I googled the meaning of halaal and found it mainly to do with meat and it simply means anything that is permissible.

Jesus had something to say about food…

In Matthew 15:11, Jesus says: What goes into a man’s mouth does not make him ‘unclean,’ but what comes out of his mouth, that is what makes him ‘unclean.'” and a few verses later, He adds,(vs18) “But the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart, and these make a man ‘unclean.”

Be careful what you think AND say.

So you don’t need to send me any more Woolworths Hot Cross Buns emails!

For the rest of my day, I really enjoyed a vibrant, interactive show this morning. After the show, Pastor Phil Dooley of Hillsong church arrived to record an interview…

He also recorded an advert for the Colour Conference. Cape Town Ladies, I hope you are ALL going to be there! (www.colourconference.com)   Phil’s a natural. He did a great job on the first take…

I also went into the recording studio a little later and recorded Good Friday’s Show as well as Easter Monday’s. Tomorrow, I hope to finish a large chunk of work that should free up most of next week.

This afternoon, I made a mushroom, chicken and spinach pie…

That’s mashed potato on top…it was GOOD!

Now the day is ended, Granny is tucked in! 🙂 And I’m off to shower.

Have a fab evening.

til tomorrow,

God Bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Hi Helga, my computer didn’t show the photo of your mushroom, chicken and spinach pie with mashed potatoes on top but it sounds like its my kind of food. . .yummy!! Read the other day where Jesus says no one can snatch us out of His hand (thouhgt of you!) and then in the very next verse He says that no one is able to snatch us out of Father’s hand . . . so we’re DOUBLY gripped!! :)) Be blessed!

Richard, I am not sure whether to reply on not and if I am going to hit “Post Comment”
I still dont know because I don’t want to start something else on Helga’s blog… I do feel, however, that there is a difference between (a) taking an event from the Bible, mocking it to sell something or (b) indicating to a group of people that something’s safe to eat!
Anyway, we all read what we like into issues. And yes, I’m extremely un-educated.

If you want to talk about this rather email me at richard@woofti.com

    Thanks
