Saturday
Today was the day…
The family in the cottage shipped on out. They were booked for 5 people but last night slept 8! At least they told me and paid for the extra. They also did the EFT for the extra night, so all in all it was worth having them. Furthermore, they left the place clean and tidy (& took their rubbish with them!), although it looked like there had been a major water fight in the downstairs bathroom. What went down there I don’t know. An hour before they left, I saw the men sitting outside on the terrace enjoying the sunshine while the women cleaned. They booked through Airbnb by a friend of theirs. They were a very sweet (quite traditional) Muslim family who were super polite, respectful and completely honest. I’d have them back. As I sit here typing most of their laundry is already washed. All the towels are dry. The duvet covers are almost dry. It’s only the sheets that need to be washed.
Of the 31 days in December, if all guests arrive and there are no cancellations, we will have had The next guests arrive on Tuesday, so I have a couple of days to be ready for them, including putting up the (newly bought) guesthouse Christmas tree. They are here for 6 nights and are followed immediately by another family of 5 who are here for 3 nights. That takes us to the Christmas weekend where a family of 3 are in the cottage for 5 nights. When they leave, a couple of Australians (living in Zambia) are here for two nights before a family of 4 arrive for about 8 or 9 nights over New Year. Busy? Yes, but everything is under control. I have double linen all round, so I can do the change over in a flash AND I have made contact with MEMORY who is coming on each of the change over days, so there will be no stress. Add in a final Little Lookout booking for this weekend after Thinus ships on out on Friday. I’ll do that change – over as Courage and Ruth will be on holiday.
Today, the wind came in briskly from the north blowing the sea flat. We went down to the beach at 8am and the shark net was already being dragged out. I swam a kilometre before my goggles broke! I tried swimming crawl but it was hard on my eyes, so I swam a few other strokes, like breast stroke, back stroke and a cross between the two! We have a few other pairs of goggles so I’m set for tomorrow, if the wind is not blowing.
Later in the morning, we went second-hand shopping and I picked up a few more Christmas decor things. Love this! It is on our table now.
The rest I put in the cottage. I’m getting into the Christmas spirit! Add to that I’m listening to this…
I also had a nice chat with Elsie and Stacey. Mike organised a lovely dinner.
And that’s the Saturday wrap.
2 Corinthians 8:9
You know the generous grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. Though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that by His poverty He could make you rich.
The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
