Good Friday 2016

In the quiet of this new day, I opened my Bible to read. I’m up to Deuteronomy 4. These ancient writings stir my soul in their validity and encouragement for today. The gems penned so long ago rise up to feed my inner being.

Deuteronomy 4:7b

….the Lord our God is near us whenever we pray to Him

Nothing has changed.

We do not serve a god made from human hands – one with eyes that do not see, or ears that do not hear. We serve God who created the universe, who made us in His own image with the plan in mind for Him to one day come to earth as a Man, Jesus Christ.

The Bible is full of connections. I went onto read Psalm 68 and read a verse I’ve never noticed before.

Psalm 68:11

“The Lord announced the word, and great was the company of those who proclaimed it.”

I’ve read that verse dozens of times but never picked up on the strength of its relevance.

It strikes a familiar tone,

John 1:1

In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.

And when the angel appeared to shepherds,

Luke 2:13-14

And suddenly there appeared with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace among men with whom He is pleased.”…

Indeed, the Lord announced the Word, and great was the company of those who proclaimed it.

The central Person of the Bible is Jesus. The central message of the Bible is His coming to earth to do what we remember Him doing on Good Friday – giving up His life for us, so that through Him we may have eternal life.

The miracle of the Gospel message lies in the fact that in order to achieve eternal life we don’t do anything to earn it.  It’s a gift for us to receive, simply in believing that this is what God has done.

Sent His Son

To die

For us

The cross

Peace to you today.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx
