“Friends” of the van Niekerks…

2-05pm

Wow, a warm, berg-wind blowing, autumn’s day in Cape Town, with the temperature way up in the mid to high 20s (Centigrade).  It’s a balmy afternoon and a siesta is tempting. There are some ‘friends’ of the van Niekerks who don’t hesitate in spending lazy hours sprawled on the lawn outside….

Remember ‘Flash Gordon?’ That was what I called the grey, fluffy cat that sped out the house the moment he was spotted. Well he has become extremely nonchalant about being in the garden…

When I walked up to him, he came to say hello and to have a bit of attention…

Very friendly...

Very friendly…Notice the chomped ear

All the while, our own cat Truffles was looking on….

TrufflesLazy Truffles looks as if butter wouldn’t melt in her mouth – she’s so chilled! I don’t mind dogs, but I LOVE being a dog free zone for these cats to mull around.

It was a riot of a show this morning. When on air, you can’t let out what you are truly thinking and this morning was crazy. I arrived at work, nice and early only to find no kettle upstairs, so I couldn’t make coffee. No problem, I’ll make it when I get to the ground floor, after I’ve started the show.

Carlynne was on study leave and I had plenty of warning that I would be reading the news. It was being emailed to me. That part was expected. I started printing the news bulletin but the upstairs printer wasn’t printing…no problem, I’ll print when I get to the studio after I’ve started the show. (Seeing a pattern already?)

I got downstairs, boiedl the kettle, went into the studio, started the show and printed the news bulletin. Then I went to the kitchen and found there was no milk! So I went upstairs to the third floor again and got milk. Came down, made the coffee. Then I went to the printer to pick up the news bulletin. We print on scrap paper and someone had put the paper in the wrong way round so the bulletin got printed on the printed side! Printed it again.

Wayne and Jonathan swapped days so this morning Wayne was due in from 7am -8am…only his alarm didn’t go off, so he didn’t arrive! That was Monday! And you know what? It didn’t matter. You do the best that you can at the time. The Lord’s mercies, apart from being new every morning, are new every moment – He meets us at the point of our need. The best thing to do is to keep calm. The Lord knew about the printer and the milk and the paper and Wayne’s alarm clock.  Those things don’t really matter. What does matter is the lady struggling with depression who  hears a song and is inspired to carry on. What does matter is the Bible verse that spurs on the unemployed man who is tempted to give up. What does matter is the message that you are not alone in your difficulty – that God walks with you. That’s what’s important. So no matter what kind of day, any day turns out to be, remember God can make a message out of a mess. He uses all of us and any of us to accomplish His purposes. Just be available to be the instrument God uses.

Ephesians 2:10  For we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.

It’s been a good day!

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
