For Such A Time As This…

11-41am

I forfeited church this morning to get Granny up, showered, dressed, fed and entertained! Mike went to our church. David went to his church. I did show prep for tomorrow and made lunch, whileGranny dozed in her chair and kept half an eye on the cricket.

If Friday was all about David and his final performance, Friday night was all about Granny. Many years ago, my older brother (who passed away in 2007) came for Christmas and bought us all personalised towels. Each of us got a towel with our name on it, including Granny…

I had got carried away doing stuff on my computer and ended up going to her room a little late to ‘put her to bed.’ When I got there, she was trying to undress. I helped her into her pajamas and then helped her to the bathroom. After I had washed her,  I helped her to the basin and put toothpaste on her toothbrush. She brushed her teeth & that was when I handed her the towel, making sure her name was clearly displayed. She looked at it, then she looked again and then she said, ‘well I’m darned!’ It was if she wanted to ask, ‘where did that come from?’  It meant so much to her. Again, it passed through my mind, ‘perhaps the Lord had Arnold get the idea to make us all personalised towels, just for Granny, for such a time as this.’ When she thinks she is forgotten, something personal, reminds her she is not.

Washed and clean, I put her to bed. For a few minutes I sat on her bed next to her and we had a little ‘conversation.’ I couldn’t make out what she was saying, but ‘wonderful’ and ‘thank-you’ came out a number of times. Another half sentence was ‘we’ll get by.’ There was no grumbling. There was no appearance of dissatisfaction or unhappiness. She smiled a lot. I told her I loved her and she repeated it back to me. When I watch her and see how frail she is, I am humbled. She has every reason to complain about her inabilities. She has reason to complain that sometimes she is left alone and seldom visited or taken out. She has reason to complain that her legs don’t do what they’re told and that she doesn’t like nappies. But she doesn’t. It is a humbling thing to watch.  Again, I felt ‘for such a time as this.’ Here I am in her life, for such a time as this. Whatever is going on in your life, it is also for such a time as this. So important was it to me to remember, I went and wrote it on my mirror in my bathroom. Now I have two messages on the mirror. One says, “I can’t but God can.” The other says,

I will see that a few times a day and I will remember my calling for Granny at this time. The statement comes from the book of Esther:

Esther 4:14: “For if you remain silent at this time, relief and deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your father’s family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to royal position for such a time as this?”

I have come to a position for such a time as this.

Absolutely!

God bless you!

You are in His Grip, for such a time as this.

Helga xx 🙂
