First Column

Tuesday

Dear Elsie

Today was the day you sent me a lovely voice note, explaining what colours you like (red and pink) and what colours you don’t like (brown!) as well as all the numbers you wrote to put on the fridge. You are really good at numbers! You also love the school holidays as do your parents, but they do have to come to an end.

This last few days have been busy for the building. Yesterday, sand and stone was delivered and today a (tiny, baby kind of) cement mixer. I don’t know how long it will last but at least it will start getting the job done. It didn’t stop Courage from casting his first column. It’s actually quite a momentous building step because it is needed to be part of the initial foundation to secure the house behind. Now, the owners of that property need to complete the paperwork for the City of Cape Town to say building has commenced!

Mike tried to explain to me what happens next – there are foundations and walls left and right of the column with back fill and then levelling.

Don’t despise the day of small beginnings. Every house needs a beginning. I think Courage was very happy.

It’s been a beautiful sunny day and both David and Mike sat outside with their shirts off getting a bit of Vitamin D. One of the neighbourhood people, Ingrid, posted this amazing sunset photo to the whatsapp group.

Absolutely beautiful.

A solid work day. I worked for about 7 hours. We are expecting guests tonight. They won’t be here before 8pm I don’t think. They are driving from Hogsback, more than 900km away. It’s a long drive.

Our wedding invitation verse…

Psalm 127:1
Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labor in vain.

It’s not about now – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx
