First Building Setback

Wednesday

The build has gone very smoothly – almost too smoothly. I thought there would be more difficulties and issues, but up to today there haven’t really been any.

Today that changed. It was a big day. The concrete was coming for the second level. Initially they said they would be there at 8am. Then they changed it to 12 noon. We were then told it would be between 12noon and 1pm. We went down just after 1pm and lo, no one was there. Eventually at 1-30pm, the concrete pump arrived.

Yay! The driver said the cement should arrive half an hour later, so we waited, and waited and waited. Eventually, Mike went home and kept calling to find out if the cement had arrived. Nope. I was watching the Main Road out of Kalk Bay and eventually, excitedly, I saw a cement mixer heading our way. But it didn’t come to us. Werner the builder, was not happy. Eventually, after many calls, he discovered the mixers hadn’t yet left Philippi – they were miles away and it was now 4-30pm. Werner anticipated working in the dark so he went off to organise light. This concrete pump costs R6000 just to come and set up. We weren’t paying that again. We went home and I asked David to call when the cement truck came. At 5-15pm, David sent a message to say it had arrived.

Yay! So down we went again and sure enough, the minor setback was over and they began pumping concrete…

Unbeknown to me it wasn’t 1 cement truck that had to come, but there were 3. There was a lot of cement…

Until eventually they were on the last corner…

And that was when we left.

We’ll see what it looks like tomorrow. While we were driving up and down Kommetjie Rd we were amazed to see this sink hole!

When we returned this evening, the municipality had dug a massive trench right across the road to repair a burst water main.

Meanwhile back home, Courage has come to paint the kitchen. Today he prepared the walls and painted the ceiling. It’s already looking better.

It’s been a busy day.

May you be filled with joy, always thanking the Father.

Good advice.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.
