Last Sunday horribly, there was a fatality at the gym. A sms was sent out on Sunday afternoon to say the gym was closed due to a medical emergency. Yesterday, I was able to ask the trainer what happened. He was there on Sunday afternoon. He said he was upstairs in the functional area when he was called urgently down to the pool area. An elderly man in his 80s was floating face down in the pool and was not responding. It appears that he must have had a stroke or heart attack. There were people in the pool swimming up and down. I know from experience that when you are swimming you aren’t really aware of what is happening in the lane next to you. It’s only when you stop that you notice what others are doing. And some people do practice holding their breath. This guy just didn’t come up for air. Anyway, the staff got him out the pool and tried to resuscitate him. One of them put the defib on him, but there was nothing they could do to save him. I think everyone was quite shocked.
Death is never easy, no matter how old the person or what the circumstances are surrounding their departure. It’s cold and final and difficult to cope with. When we don’t know what to do, the Bible has the answer:
Psalm 86:7
When I am in distress, I call to You, because You answer me.
Today has been a good day. We met Julian and David for breakfast, I did some work and then Mike dropped me at my ladies meeting and he went to Clovelly driving range. He picked me up on the way home. I did a bit more work and then couldn’t keep my eyes open, so I had a nap. Julian arrived and we drove back to Fish Hoek and then walked to Harbour Bay Mall. There was a brisk south easter blowing. The sea was quite choppy…
At Glencairn there was a very skilled kite surfer…
We had dinner at Restaurant 136. The steaks were great!
#743 of my 1000 thanks is for friends with whom I can pray. Those prayers are powerful.
Weekend!
These are the days.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you.
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
