Fabulous Free Fun

Saturday

Today was the day…

After the storm. Last night it blew gales and rain poured down as predicted. This morning, it was still blowing a bit but the rain had stopped and it looked like a swim would be a good idea. We walked down to the beach a little later than usual and had the benefit of the shark net being put in place. Mike went for his run. I went for my swim. The water was cold, but just a tad warmer out by the barrel. I swam up and down for a while. Mike came in, had a dip and then got out. I said I’d swim a bit more and see him shortly. It was then that the clouds gathered overhead. Chapman’s Peak disappeared completely. I could see the rain sweeping in. It got to Clovelly first, blowing towards Kalk Bay. Mike, now at the bench and protected by the restaurant building didn’t see it coming. Suddenly it started to rain. I had all the sea to myself and with the added bonus of the shark net being in place, I felt safe. It was an abundance of fabulous free fun! Pouring with rain, I swam with joy. Everyone was running for cover. I couldn’t get more drenched so the water coming from above was just an added bonus. I didn’t see a reason to get out, so I just carried on swimming and playing in the water until the rain stopped. It was 40 minutes in the water and afterwards I was chilled to the bone!  Absolutely worth it though.  Later in the day the sun came out. I walked to the village to do some shopping and came back via the hillside. Fish Hoek beach – my playground.

Both yesterday morning and today, Mike and I watched a huge whale glide past very close to the coast. Yesterday it was around 7am. This morning closer to 8am. It was a Southern Right and so massive. It comes out of the water and goes back in, in front of one house and then comes out in front of the next house before disappearing below the surface of the water again.  It left a long trail of water in its wake. I’ll be looking out to see if it does the rounds tomorrow morning.

The other entertainment from today were preparations for a big party at the rental house next door. There were deliveries of tables and chairs, display boards and flowers. Then this evening, there have been so many cars arriving. Seldom has the road been as busy as this and much to my chagrin there are two cars parked on our kerb. Just as well the guests in the cottage came by Uber.  Party is now in full swing, although periodic showers have driven the gathering inside and it is slightly less noisy than it could be.

1 Peter 4:11

If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides, so that in all things God may be praised through Jesus Christ.

The best is yet to come -we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
