3-27pm
What a crazy morning! Mike woke up at about 6-15am and asked if we had run out of electricity because the power was off. I know that a few days ago we had 150 units so we shouldn’t have run out. I went to the kitchen to check and the Econ unit had the switches down and no light.
It was dead. I turned it on and it just kept turning itself off. We turned all the electricity off and it was still tripping. It must have gone off at about 3am, because the slow cooker containing my semi-cooked beef was cold. We phoned the electricity department and logged a fault. We got a reference number. The lady said they would call, but the people were not yet in. At just before 7am, I called my neighbour and delivered the slow cooker to her house so we would have my ‘Father’s Day’ lunch! Then I went to buy coffee…
Then we went back to sleep. In waking Mike set off in search of a generator. It took him about 4 hours but he got one and has just powered it up.
And we had a lovely sit down dinner.
There has been no sign of the electricity people. I tried phoning the 24 hour electricity number which is ‘share-call’. 0860103089. While holding on, it blew Mike’s cell phone limit and then mine. Julian doesn’t have pre-paid, so I ran his cell phone bill up while holding on for 20 minutes. Still no answer. Once we had generator power to our landline, I spent another 18 minutes waiting for them to reply. Still none! So we are feeling a little ‘at sea!’ I sent an sms to 31220 as well. The generator works well for Mike & I, but we have Julian with us until tomorrow and then we have a family of 4 moving into the cottage for a month. The cottage is ‘ship-shape’ except one minor little detail – no electricity! So I hope that someone comes and sorts us out soon. If you know of anyone in the Cape Town electricity department, please let me know. You can email me – use this email address: helgasdailyblog@gmail.com and let me know who to call. *Desperate!*
Somehow, I feel that these things are sent to us for a purpose. The urgency of getting the generator for today may just turn into a magnificent blessing in the months ahead.
Romans 8:28 comes to mind:
And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.
Meantime, I am grateful for a gas cylinder & two plate stove to make tea & cook.
My farewell flowers are still blooming two weeks later…
God bless you richly!
In His Fabulously Safe Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
