33 Hours Without Electricity!

4-12pm

We slept like logs last night. When I woke up this morning and looked at my cell phone, I was amazed to find it was 10 to 8. That was a good sleep. Still without power, I turned on the gas and made coffee….

Gas burnerNo rain was forecast for the day and some sunshine was imperative for us to have our solar panels generate some hot water…it didn’t look promising…

Misty dayWe managed to get through to the 24 hour number and they told us the ‘morning shift’ had been given the job and would be coming this morning. So as we didn’t miss them, Mike & Julian went out for breakfast, while I waited for the morning shift to arrive. The didn’t arrive! As Mike & Julian arrived home, I left to meet with a friend for coffee. An hour and a half later, I arrived home anticipating good news. Nothing! It was soon to be 12 noon! I started compiling another pleading sms. I had written it, checked it and was about to press send, when they arrived! Yayyyyyyyyy!! They got straight to work, telling me the box was ancient and had permanently died. At no charge, a new one was due

Yay they arrivedAnd so they put it in…

New boxAnd with it came a new card. They said I must cut up my old card, so I did…

Old and newWhat a relief to have it all back to normal. We were then able to focus on the cottage and guests arriving to stay in it for a month. They will be here in the next hour.

I was glad that this happened to me. It was massively inconvenient! We are not exempt from these hassles. You’ve just got to ride them out, knowing time will pass and things will get better, but they are a serious toothache kind of irritation while they’re there. I was very relieved that there was something wrong and that they didn’t just say, ‘No madam, you just had to press this button!!!’ That was one of my fears!  Yay! It is broken! Yay! It is now fixed! It is amazing what we take for granted. I found myself this morning with a huge heart of gratitude.

1 Thessalonians 5:18

Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.

I belong. I am thankful! 😀

To end the afternoon, I took Julian for a long drive over Chapman’s Peak, through Hout Bay to Camps Bay, then to the airport for him to return to Johannesburg. Nice way to end the weekend!

And a new fabulous week has begun.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
