Energy

After a “bad” eating, no real exercise, slack attack day yesterday,  today saw me scuttling off to the gym at 8-30 for a warm up walk before the Grid.  Yesterday I strayed from what I usually eat and had sushi and pasta.  This morning as I marched determinedly on the treadmill one thing became apparent –  I  had  ENERGY.  Cutting carbs is the hardest thing for my body to do.  Over and over I  have tried but it saps me of all my strength,  dries up my insides and generally reduces the quality of my life.  I have yet to get the balance right. The one thing I am doing is trying to cut refined carbs and certainly sugar but it’s not always easy. I was surprised at how much energy I had this morning and I now contribute last week’s fatigue to low carbing which I just started again. It lasted all of three days or so!

I do remember Tim Noakes saying a number of things about the low carb struggle. Firstly when you go onto a low carb diet, at the start, you can get a kind of low carb flu. Once your body has adjusted you get better. My problem is that I just can’t hang on long enough for the better to kick in. Secondly, he said if you have a reduced amount of energy and exercise a lot, you must eat more carbs.  Thirdly, after chatting to  Mike, he said he probably has a metabolism that works well and as a result he doesn’t need to go onto a low carb diet. Mike was very relieved about that. There’s no diabetes in my family but my HBA1C did tend to be higher than 5 which did not garner approval of the Banting experts.

After gym, I had a shower, then Stacey called and we spoke for an hour. Breakfast followed (by then it was really late). I did a bit of work. Later Mike and I went and bought a few groceries. While we were out the heavens opened the predicted rain came pouring down. We know it’s bad when the wind blows the water under our balcony doors and into our bedroom. We had a bit of a water feature going there for a bit! Sorry this is so small but you get the idea…yay for the rain.

Onto another note entirely. I have renewed respect and admiration for the talent of our son David. He did his BMus degree (Western Classical Performance in Guitar)  at UCT College of Music and followed it up with his Masters in Music. He has started a You Tube  Channel and has produced some videos of himself playing as well as a few guitar tutorials. He’s working on a tutorial of this piece but will only upload when he’s got 50 subscribers, so please go subscribe!  His Channel is called CapoXProductions.

We have such talented children. Stacey is an engineer.  David is a musician. Both got their Dad’s genes!! Mom just bursts with pride, which extends to my son-in-law as well.

I’m now tucked up in bed and will get a bit more work done before calling it a day.

#767 of my 1000 thanks is for my facewash. I randomly picked  one off the shelf the other day and I absolutely love it. It’s Rooibos facewash.

Psalm 118:8

It is better to take refuge in the Lord than to trust in people.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
