I have been reflecting on the end of May 2014 – a full 3 years ago, when I presented my last Rise & Shine on Radio CCFm and walked out of the studio for the last time. I have visited since, but my role is different. This was 30th May 2014….
I was listening to the radio the other day and asked myself if I was in any way interested in returning to the profession in any capacity. I concluded my radio days are over. If I was invited as a guest, that would be fine, but after 10 years of doing the Rise and Shine show and another 10 years prior to that working in the industry, I am enjoying the freedom of something different.
#310 of my 1000 thanks is for 20 amazing years at Radio CCFm. It equipped me with so many skills that believe it or not, I still employ today.
Take, for example these interviews I go to. There will be 50 or so teachers in a room and I will have absolutely no problem walking to the front of the meeting room, calling for their attention, welcoming them and going through the procedures for the day. No one has ever told me to do this. It just makes sense for me to do it. I’m confident with Skype, I’m confident with people, I’m confident with technology. It was two decades of training for what I am doing today, minus, of course, the listening audience. I’m really grateful to CCFm, but I’m in awe of God who has taken me from one line of work and slotted me into something so vastly different and new and yet it is a perfect fit.
Only God could do that.
It ticks all the boxes. There are goals, there’s a bit of stress, there’s travel, there’s teamwork. I love it. The benefits are far more than I could have asked or imagined. Working from home and hanging out with Mike, drinking tea, taking midday walks, going out for weekly breakfast, all between working online. Just love it.
So today we woke up quite early and by 8am I was at my computer working. My colleague in Abu Dhabi came back to work after a week off and so we had a Skype call. I then Skyped with an applicant and had a couple of Skype calls with the MD of the company so she could show me how to do something she wanted me to do….that’s the joy of Skype – share screen and do a quick lesson and you are good to go. For the rest of the day, I threw myself into that task and did some filing of other admin as well.
Last day of the month. Tomorrow is June 2017.
Daniel 2:21
He changes times and seasons; He removes kings and sets up kings; He gives wisdom to the wise and knowledge to those who have understanding;
So grateful that God is over all.
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
