End of Egypt Tour

Sunday

Today saw the end of our Egypt Tour. All our fellow travellers headed off to their respective countries. A few of us remain behind as our flights were not today. I was cold last night and slept badly until I finally got up and found an extra blanket in the wardrobe. When I fell asleep again, I slept like a log and woke up at 7:45am.

Breakfast was a laid back affair. Afterwards, we returned to our room, Mike to read his book and me to work. I got online and worked altogether for 5 hours today. Meanwhile, Julian, David and Gerrie headed off in an Uber to see the main Cairo Mosque which sits alongside an impressive Citadel. I didn’t want to see the Mosque, so we stayed behind. After the Mosque, the three of them took a walk, but seemingly went the wrong way and were stopped by a local who vehemently announced, “please don’t go any further – it’s dangerous here!” Doesn’t look very desirable.

I spent an hour or so at the pool. A cat suddenly approached the steps of the pool and went down to drink. The level of the water was not very high over the step and it was quite a reach for this cat, so he put his paw into the water and started drinking. I snapped a picture…

I’ve never seen a cat do that before. I thought I’d get a little closer. The cat didn’t see me creep up behind him and just kept on drinking…

Then he raised his head…

At this point he saw me in the corner of his eye, leapt into the air in fright and quickly ran away! As soon as he had recovered, he looked at me from a distance and meowed prettily! Crazy that he was happy to stand in the water!

This afternoon passed by quietly enough. I went to the gym, came back, had a shower and then we have a family supper at the hotel. The price was not bad. About 530 Egyptian pound for 5 of us. David has gone into town with one of the other travellers. We are expecting him back quite soon.

It’s quite fun doing nothing in Cairo. Just being here and recovering from the busy tour is an adventure. Perhaps tomorrow I’ll venture out.
