End of an Era

Tomorrow marks the end of an era for Mike and I.  He has been involved in CCFm in some capacity since its inception as Radio Fish Hoek in September 1983 when he put together the bones of a small computer system that managed all the station information. Then he went onto become the presenter of the technology show which has been aired on CCFm since 1985. It was first called Dr. Network, then Technology Today and for the last few years, Mike has focused on the future of technology and renamed it Technology Tomorrow. Last week the programme manager called to  say that they don’t require his show any longer and it’s making way for a locally produced children’s production.

This week he recorded and uploaded his last show for airing tomorrow morning at 6-30am. He recorded it on Tuesday and it was quite an emotional day.  He’s been producing and presenting the show for 24 years. Technology has moved so fast during that time. From the introduction of personal computing through the start of the internet and cell phone technology, Mike covered it all.

Nugget from my journey: This is the first part of tomorrow’s show – it tells how it all started….

TT part one

It is the end of an era – one that grew us, blessed us and has left us marvelling that God could possibly have used us for it in the first place. Mike stood down from the Board of Management in 2013. This was his last AGM.

I left my presenting position at the end of May 2014. This was me a year before I left, hanging out in the CCFM studio…

We are grateful for the opportunity entrusted to us for this season.

Julian is here this weekend and tomorrow the Ladies Christian Home is having their winter market, so the three of us are going into town to give them some support. Also Julian bought a picture of an old Cape Town scene – looks like Wale Street about 100 years ago, so we are going to see if we can find the spot from which the picture was taken.

Psalm 61:4

I long to dwell in Your tent forever and take refuge in the shelter of Your wings.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Gym:

Today I had a bout of winter laziness. I was up early enough to go to gym. I actually put my gym pants on, but instead of going to gym in the dark, the cold, the wind and the rain, I made coffee and climbed back into bed.  That sounds like a really clever thing I did!

I did walk 10000 steps!
