While in Hermanus, Mike wanted to play golf at the beautiful & historic Hermanus Golf Club (HGC). Unless you plan it in advance it’s not going to happen. So a few weeks ago, I emailed asking if there was availability. I received an email back explaining that there was social golf between 8 & 10am on Saturday morning, but you could only book your spot one week in advance. So important was this, that I diarised that I had to phone HGC at 8am on Saturday 28th March to book a tee off time. It was duly made for 8-02am for 4-4-2015.
Yesterday dawned cool and overcast. We had a rushed breakfast and then hopped into the car and at 7-30am with the outside temperature being 14C we were on our way to the club…
With 18 holes ahead of us and Mike not wanting me to walk all 10km, he hired a golf cart and we had the fun of driving the course. Everything was new. I’d never been at HGC before, so didn’t know the layout; I’d never driven a golf cart before. I knew it would be a lot of fun. But what we didn’t anticipate was the light drizzle that would commence the moment Mike’s ball flew perfectly down the first fairway. I had never caddied for Mike in the rain before. There’s a first for everything. The rain began as we began and continued late into the day. It varied from gentle ‘spitting’ to persistent sheets of wind-blown showers. Fortunately, Mike had bought a jacket…
The golf varied from strokes of brilliance to moments of soggy horror as slippery clubs and dripping gloves resulted in wayward shots that careered into seldom found corners of the course. We kept our sense of humour and carried on. When it was too rainy, I covered under the cover of the cart and observed proceedings from a distance…
As the driver, it wasn’t all that easy seeing where I was going…
Half way round, there was a brief break in the rain, which motivated us to complete the 18 holes. It’s a beautiful course, but yesterday was really duck’s weather…
Mike enjoyed playing, but not getting wet. He was drenched. I stopped by the ladies change room and using the hair-dryer, I dried my pants and felt much better for it. When we got back to the hotel, Mike had a hot bath and I went and warmed up in front of a welcoming blaze…
It was memorable…that’s for sure! Embracing Mike’s passion for golf sometimes means playing in the rain! I was so grateful for the cart. They are such a lot of fun!
And so today, Easter Sunday has dawned and throughout the Christian world, the shout went out, “Christ is Risen, He is risen indeed!”
Matthew 28:6
“He is not here; He has risen, just as He said.”
There’s been a lot of tragedy this year, but it’s not about now and it’s not about here. It’s about eternity and heaven.
Be eternity focussed.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
