Do Unto Others…

10-12am

This morning I woke up at 4-55am to be praying by 5am as it is our church’s day Day of Prayer when we have a 24 hour prayer chain. I chose the half hour from 5am. I finished just after 5-30 and then did my Bible reading…I missed it yesterday so had double to read this morning. So it was just after 6am that I enthusiastically hopped back into bed and fell asleep, waking with a start after 8am! My first thought was GRANNY! Oops. I hot-footed it downstairs.  When I got towards her bedroom, I smelt SOAP! Oh, wow, maybe she has attended to her own washing. I walked hopefully into her bedroom, but alas, there she was looking very feeble in her nightie, cold and wet. The soap smell must have been from David’s shower.

I directed her to the bathroom and stood her in the bath and showered her from top of her head to the bottom of her feet. Then I dried her off, dressed her up in layers of clothes and got her into the lounge where I gave her breakfast. Nothing nicer than feeling clean and fresh again….

Whenever I get the opportunity to freshen Granny up, it takes me back to 4th December 1987 at about 7-15pm. It was the day Stacey was born. After a long labour, a final hour epidural and a bruising forceps delivery, I was exhausted. The elation of holding my precious first-born in my arms. The amazing experience of spending 5 minutes alone with her, giving her first feed with Mike at my side, before they sewed me up and took her away for weighing and washing, will remain with me FOREVER!  They took me back to my ward to sleep just after 7pm. I had just dozed off when the night staff arrived. They gave me a bed bath. I was so tired and all I can remember was how wonderful it felt and I must have said thank you about 10 times. Do to others as I have had others do to me. To the hospital staff of Paarl Hospital who were on night duty on the evening of 4th December 1987, if you didn’t hear it, THANK YOU!

Anyway, as a result, I didn’t get to the morning service, but I did have the opportunity of getting all of lunch prepared, tidied up our bedroom and made the bed and now I’ve done a super early blog! Most of my show prep is done for tomorrow, so now I’m waiting for Mike to arrive home from church. The rest of the family are coming for lunch and it’s a beautiful day in Cape Town….

Luke 6:31 Jesus gives us the ‘golden rule’ : Do to others as you would have them do to you.

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
