This morning as I did my Bible reading, there was lots of inspiration on how to live life. The verse that jumped out at me came out of the book of Luke as he quotes the words of Jesus. This is not a verse I have underlined in my Bible. It’s a verse I must have read many times but not noticed. I can imagine that Luke recorded these particular words, out of all the many that Jesus spoke because they were particularly relevant to the day. Nothing has changed.
Luke 21:34
“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life…”
According to the internet, dissipation can be described as a couple of things: sensual pleasures or the squandering of money, energy and resources.
How easy it is for us to be weighed down by the anxieties of life.
Be careful not to go down that road. It was good advice.
I also read Psalm 90, where Moses wraps up the psalm by saying,
“May the favour of the Lord our God rest upon us; establish the work of our hands for us – yes, establish the word of our hands.”
I’ve always been astonished by the miracle that God does when we commit our work and our lives to Him.
That act of faith – of handing over little things and big things that are going on in our lives to Him leads Him to establish the work of our hands. To have God intervene in our lives is a miracle (internet definition: an extraordinary and welcome event that is not explicable by natural or scientific laws and is therefore attributed to a divine agency.)
Again it brings me back to Proverbs 3:5-6 to trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.
Sometimes, we don’t think the paths are as straight as they should be, but God knows. He sees the bigger picture and for that I am eternally grateful.
#217 of my thousand thanks today is that I live in South Africa where we are free to worship Jesus Christ as Lord. It has been heart-warming to see millions of Christians across the country gather in prayer yesterday, from the multitudes in Bloemfontein down to individuals in their homes and hundreds of prayer meetings in between.
To God be the glory. This many people praying in Bloemfontein. It’s Time – with Angus Buchan, Bloemfontein, South Africa, 22nd April 2017. To the generation not yet born, this was a remarkable occasion. I was not at it, but many hundreds of thousand did attend.
Here’s another photo..
To God be the glory. We are blessed.
I can’t let the day end without reflecting that today would have been my Mom’s 85th birthday. Born Elizabeth Anne Davies 23-4-1932. Entered eternity 28-1-2004. She celebrates in eternity with the God we serve on earth by faith. She is with Him.
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
