David’s Strategy

Monday

Dear Elsie,

What can I say about today? For me it was another desk bound day. While I covered for my manager all of last week, this week, he had a family crisis and needed to fly to Spain to help his elderly father while his 83 year old mother recovers in hospital. It was another long day – more than 9 hours & no opportunity to sit in my rocking chair. Things should be normal from Wednesday. It’s good to have the work – considering I get paid by the hour and if I don’t work, I don’t get paid, but at the same time, I can do without the stress.

Meanwhile, David’s strategy has become clearer, now that we think this is serious Covid fatigue. He has a 2 prong plan:

  1. Stay positive
  2. Manage his energy levels.

There’s not much else to do. He is grateful to his employer who considers him an excellent part of the team and is happy to send him as many or as few classes as he can manage. Add to that, he’s also okay with sending him the easiest and the ones that don’t start at 3am. Furthermore, he encouraged David today by telling him he has the top retention rate for the classes that are able to cancel after a certain period. So he’s happy to wait for David and keep him employed until he has made a full recovery.

He taught one lesson today and felt good. He rested and then bravely set off for Harbour Bay to see how shopping felt. This was a stretch. He parked as close as possible, got into Woolworths, bought a few things, had to sit down on one of the couches on the way out and didn’t get into Clicks. It’s important for him to try these jaunts because he will be able to compare himself in the weeks ahead.

We’ve had conversations about why this has happened. We say “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your paths straight.” (Proverbs 3:5-6).  Then when God does set about making our paths straight, we throw our hands up in despair and say ‘what’s going on!?’

One day at a time, that’s for sure.

Yesterday, when I was waiting for the guests to arrive, Mike was watching from the balcony. Nice pic…

Time for me to get away from this screen.

The best is still to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Gran xx 🙂
