Cultural Lesson Learned

There was some shouting in the street. I walked across to my bedroom doors and peered out. One of the neighbours who lives down the road was having an altercation with a man. The resident took a photo of the man and he was really unhappy about it. The man then picked up a massive TV and carried on hurrying down the street.

I called to Mike and told him there was a guy walking down the street with a TV. Of course, our first thought was that it was stolen. So I dashed outside and up the road and said, “Hi, where did you get the TV?” The man rebuked me for not greeting him properly. He said I must ask him how he is before asking where he got the TV. All I wanted to know was where he got it. I told him we had 5 burglaries in just about 5 weeks last year, naming the dates that each one happened. He listened to that and understood why the neighbours were concerned. He told me who had given it to him. I said that was fine. I have given TVs away before as well. I understood, but was curious why they hadn’t given him a lift home. He said they only had a scooter.  On mutual territory now, we commiserated with each other about the woes of crime in our area. I said, ‘You know what it’s like in Masi”. “Yes,” he said, “I put my washing on the line and go and sit outside until it’s dry.”

I shook his hand and we parted company.  I will remember this. Greet him first, ask how he is, then ask about the 72cm TV he’s lugging down the street. If he was a thief, I think he may have run away and not stopped to chat.

Signs of our times.

Today our latest water bill arrived. We have used 143 litres of water a day – for three of us, so we are under 50 litres per person. It is a bit of a mission, but using tank water makes it a whole lot easier.  So grateful….

Talking of rain, there is some forecast for tomorrow.

Today I Skyped with one of the lead consultants at head office and she asked me to fill in for someone over the week ahead.  It’s sorting through dozens of emails that come in daily. It should keep me busy. I’ll work on it tomorrow.

#607 of my 1000 thanks is for new work!

I went to gym today. I didn’t really feel like it, but when I get up in the morning and pray, one of the people I pray for really needs a lifestyle change, so I pray the Lord will help him to be compelled to get exercise and eat right. In that frame of mind, I try to do the same. Just go.

I did a fitness test first which found my fitness fair. I got to level 4 which was higher than before. Then I stuck the treadmill onto 5km and started running. I was sluggish, so I walked really fast for a minute or two and then ran for a minute or two.  This was the outcome…

The rest of the day I worked but also went to my weekly Bible study group.

A lovely evening it is.

2 Timothy 2:1

My child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
