Compromises

Mondays are always the busiest day of the week for me. This morning, I woke early and was at my desk just after 5am. I debated about going to gym at that time, but it was so dark, so I decided to work until 7-30am and then go.

The weather took me by surprise. After the warmth of yesterday, today dawned cold and misty. I left the house in sleeveless gym kit and was freezing. I found a *used* t-shirt belonging to Mike on the back seat of the car. It didn’t matter its state. I put it on just to try to be a little warmer. I must actually remember to take it out my gym bag because that’s where it got stuffed once I’d got exercising.

When I got home, I was warm as toast, but not for long. This mist descended on the valley and wrapped Chapman’s Peak in a thick white shroud. Finally, early in the afternoon it began to lift. It was quite chilly and I was so tempted to crawl into bed and work on my laptop in warmth and comfort. But in the end, my large screen won.

There are always compromises in life.

If I work on my laptop, I don’t have my big monitor.

But if I have my big monitor, I can’t have it in my bed.

Other compromises that are only too evident in our lives – the house we are intending to build is fraught with compromises. Right now we park inside our garage and walk straight into the house. When we move to the new house, we will park in the garage and walk up 60 steps to get to our house. Even when we get the funicular built, there will still be 24 steps to get to it. No fun in the rain! We’ll have to time our shopping trips in winter! I think we may start ordering groceries on-line.

Picture the doorbell ringing; I’d answer it and tell the delivery man to ‘come on up!’ He just doesn’t know it will be 60 steps!

There’s no perfect place on earth to live. Wherever you live, there’s compromise. One country may have brilliant infrastructure but a dead spiritual life. Another may have lots of issues but the church is vibrant and growing. There’s always going to be compromises. Big one and small ones – what we  eat, what we spend our money on and how we spend our time. We can’t do everything. The one big compromise we made this year is to can our 29 night cruise and reserve the money for building expenses. We are not regretting it.

So grateful for this day. I did more than 9 hours of work. Time for me to wrap up and cruise into the balance of my evening routine.

Proverbs 3:3

Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Gym:

I did an old routine:

  • Treadmill for 30 minutes of fast walking
  • The 30 minutes Grid! I forgot how hard it is. But the pay off is wonderful. You feel so good afterwards.
  • Then I cycled for about 7 minutes and did some stretches
  • This evening Mike and I walked around the neighbourhood so I could get to 10000 steps.
