Cliff Walking…

3-32pm

We’ve probably walked about 16km today! I don’t know if I’ll be able to get out of bed tomorrow! The day began with a beautiful sunrise over the lagoon…

Sunrise over the lagoonWe took a pre-breakfast walk and probably meandered about two kilometres down the lagoon towards Stanford. The river is low…I wish I could make this picture of the lagoon bigger, but that’s it…

The lagoon

After a hearty breakfast, we liberally splashed ourselves with sunblock and set off for the cliff path…

Cliff Path

It winds its way along the sea front (mainly) for about 10km, from Grotto Beach to the New Harbour. Our walk took us from Grotto Beach to just before the Old Harbour…a distance of about 7km. There was plenty to see. It’s an easy path to walk – no bikes allowed. Wheelchairs & prams would struggle to cover the whole distance. The path is concrete for most of the way, with bridges to cross and steps to climb…

Mike on the path…and many overhanging bushes to appreciate…

Walk through lots of shady spotsWe passed some interesting signs…

Rest spotsAt one of the benches, we encountered an unexpected plaque…

And I enjoyed the breeze on this rock…

Nearing our destinationThe path takes you to the Main Rd. along this track…

The path returns to the main rd for a bitAfter about 500m it takes you back to the cliffs and not long after that we arrived at our ‘swim spot’. Marine Pool…

Me in Marine poolThat’s me! We both had a dip. It was a great idea!

Then we went a little further on to a restaurant called Bientang’s Cave. We sat right next to the sea and had cappuccinos that cost a whopping R22-50 each…they were small, not that great and took AGES to arrive, so we weren’t all that impressed with the place, but the view from our table was terrific…

View from our tableGo down to Bientangs for the view, but don’t bother stopping to eat or drink…you’ll get way better service at other Hermanus restaurants.

After Bientangs, guess what we did? We turned around and walked the 7km home again. I had to smile when we passed this beach…

No dogs ha haThe tiny little arrows point to three dogs! 🙂

Soon we arrived back at…

Baleens sign…where we had a swim and then a shower and now Mike is sleeping and I am also going to lie down as soon as I’ve posted this.

Psalm 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; the skies proclaim the work of His hands.

We certainly enjoyed God’s creation today!

Today I’m thinking of my step-sister, Sandy, who died in a car accident on this day in 1990. She died on her daughter’s 13th birthday, which means Lache turns 36 today. I’m thinking of them both. Tomorrow, marks 9 years since my Mom passed away. 9 years. Where does the time go? Make the most of every moment!

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
