Celebrating David

Oh dear. Today’s routine was blown out of the water. We went to bed at 10pm last night. I woke up around 4am, got up and did some work. Went back to bed and overslept because, of course, Mike’s alarm was not set. So I did not do my 6am Bible reading and neither did I go for my morning 3km walk! :/  Running a bit behind then!

We did go out for breakfast to celebrate David’s birthday! This photo was from 1st March 1991….

1st March 1991

While David may have been the centre of my attention, without a doubt, Stacey takes the award for the cutest of the cute! It’s such a special photo. Old and grainy, with hospital gown and all, David was just a few hours old and Stacey had arrived in the ward (False Bay Hospital) to announce, “I have a little brother and his name is David!”

She was so proud of him. So proud then and just as proud now. She has been a wonderful older sister.

We have many happy memories of the two of them getting up to all sorts of things together, like when Stacey seconded David into handing her small buckets of stones, which she threw one by one into the neighbour’s pool. She was about 7 and David 4, when I discovered the mischief one cool July afternoon. I ended up having to go next door with them in tow and while they sat on the edge of the pool, I dived to the bottom picking up stones. The neighbours were out, but had a fine chuckle when they heard about the shenanigans. Having 5 children of their own, they knew what children were like and there were no hard feelings!

Stacey’s interest in stones sinking to the bottom of the pool was an indication of the kind of curious brain she had then and has now. An engineer by qualification, she has been blessed with a great deal of talent.

David is also wildly gifted but his lies in a different direction. The musician in the family, his talent is amazing. While he studied classical music, he is an all round musician and song writer with some hidden gems, which we hope to hear more of in the future.

You can listen to a couple of samples of his classical music here.

Happy Birthday David! 🙂 heart

When I think of David, I think of humour….he makes us laugh. I think of amazing musical talent. I think of him being a deep thinker who has a broad general knowledge on a surprising number of topics. I think of him as an athlete, someone who loves adventure, he’s tennis fan, a fun brother and great son to have around. He’s caring and considerate, has amazing people skills and a very nice girlfriend! 😉

And he has faith.

He was about 4 when he and Mike prayed together and he started believing in Jesus. He may have been a tiny child simply accepting the gospel in the simplest form, but since then, the principle of Jesus being His foundation has stood firm.

It reminds me of an exchange in the Bible between Jesus and His disciples. In John 6, we read that many of Jesus’ disciples were turning away from Him, finding His teaching too unacceptable to believe.

John 6:66 – 68

“As a result of this many of His disciples withdrew and were not walking with Him any more. So Jesus said to the twelve, “You do not want to go away also, do you?” Simon Peter answered Him, “Lord, to whom shall we go? You have words of eternal life.…”

To whom shall we go?

Jesus has the words of eternal life.

Keep the smile going!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
