Truffles is the cutest cat ever. Many years ago she came to our home as a youngster and Mike took her under his wing and decided to ‘fatten her up.’ We thought she was a stray and didn’t have an owner. She became Mike’s special project. On Christmas morning of that year, I opened our bedroom curtains and looked outside. I saw Truffles on the road outside. The conversation went like this:
Me: Aw aw, there’s a problem with your cat.Mike: Oh why?
Me: She has a pink collar on! Mike: What?!!! Traitor!
Truffles, did indeed have an owner… the neighbours across the road owned Truffles. She just liked to hang out at our dog free zone. When the neighbours moved away, they asked if we could take care of her until they had settled. Some months later, they came back, with a box of Truffles and we swapped…the cat for the chocolates! We missed her and were quite heart-sore for a few days. Then in March this year, the phone rang unexpectedly and it was the neighbour saying they needed help with Truffles again. I explained that we were so sad to lose her last time and we didn’t want to go through that again. She said, ‘you can have her.’ The next day Truffles was duly delivered. She spent no time getting adjusted and has got closer to us as the months pass. Whenever I get home, she’s somewhere around, peeking over the mezzanine, curled up in the garage or sunning herself on the step. She normally joins me in the kitchen and I give her something to eat….that was until yesterday. I saw her last disappear out the window at 4am and when I got home there was no sign of her. I walked around the garden calling her. I walked around the house calling her. No sign of Truffles! I went to gym and returned. No Truffles. Mike came home and David arrived. No Truffles. Now it was more than 12 hours since I’d seen her. We had conversations about how she will eventually come when she’s hungry. She must be somewhere. She’s probably over at the neighbours. But inside, my anxiety grew. After 7pm, I was sitting on the bed and saying to Mike, “I wonder where she is?” I spontaneously called, “Truffles! Truffles!” And with that there was a faint ‘meow’! I said to Mike, “Did you hear that?” “Yes!” he said. I leapt off the bed and started downstairs, expecting to see her. Nothing to be found. The downstairs was quiet – no sign of Truffles. Then I heard the haadeedaas and thought maybe that was the meow we had heard. Disappointed, I went back upstairs and sat down on the bed. It was just after that that we suddenly heard movement – something fell out of my cupboard and stepping gingerly out behind it came sleepy, stiff Truffles. Stretching, she looked innocently up at us, wondering what all the fuss was about! Silly kitty.
Today when I got home, I looked in the cupboard…this is what I saw – two dresses hanging…
But when I parted them, who should appear…
Very cleverly concealed, all snug in the dark, out of sight, completely safe and able to be left in peace. Perfect place for a cat! Now I know where to look…for the moment…until she finds another place!
So that’s a perfect place for Truffles. What’s a perfect place for me! God provides a perfect hiding place for each one of us.
Psalm 32:7
You are my hiding place; you will protect me from trouble and surround me with songs of deliverance.
You don’t have to search very far. Just call His Name.
God bless you loads!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
