Not all calcium is created equal. I have been taking calcium for years but last year changed to this one…R230 for 120, which is 3 months supply, 2 months if you take 2.
Then I heard that someone’s confirmed osteoporosis had improved after a year of taking this one…
….when taken with folate.
So I figured that the change would be worth it. Ultimate Bone Support is imported. I picked up a bottle at my local health shop. 120 tablets for R370. The instructions said to take 4 per day, so that’s a month’s supply. That seemed like overkill so I started by taking 2. They are HUGE tablets and slightly bigger than my Calmag Max Absorption.
Then yesterday it occurred to me that the Calmag may be as good, so I did a comparison!
Shock!
Ingredient | Ultimate Bone Support
Cost R370 per 120 tabs |
Calmag Max Absorption
Cost R230 per 120 tabs |
Calcium | 1000mg per 4 tablets | 600mg per 1 tablet |
Vitamin D3 | 25ug per 4 tablets | 10ug per 1 tablet |
Boron | 2mg per 4 tablets | 2mg per 1 tablet |
Zinc | 5mg per 4 tablets | 11mg per 1 tablet |
Magnesium | 500mg per 4 tablets | 40mg per tablet |
Manganese | 2mg per 4 tablets | 3.3mg |
Copper | 0 | 2.5mg |
Vitamin K2 | 65ug per 4 tablets | 110ug |
But there is a difference between taking one and taking 4.
The recommended dose of the Calmag is 1 a day. The recommended dose of the Ultimate Bone support is 4. I’ve been taking two. I couldn’t find the folate so I’ve been taking 5mg of folic acid three times a week.
At least I know now that the Calmag works and I think I can find a magnesium supplement that makes up the difference.
It’s always good to know what you are taking.
Next year, I think I will schedule another bone density test and see what it looks like. Last year I had one and it said I had osteopenia in my spine.
These things are good to know about. If I am going to live to 91, I need to have strong bones to enjoy it!
# 178 of my 1000 thanks is for progress around the home – Mike is working on maintenance; tomorrow the back wall gets raised by two panels and next week 2 security doors get fitted.
3 John 1:2 is such a friendly verse:
Beloved, I pray that all may go well with you and that you may be in good health, as it goes well with your soul
That’s my prayer for you!
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
