Building Pitfalls

Friday

Today I woke up early and decided to go to  gym. As soon as I got home, I showered and then Mike and I left for Fish Hoek where I stopped in at Pathcare and had my bloods done for routine HBA1C, Cholesterol and Fasting Glucose.

Right after that,  we met up with Julian and David at AP Jones. Today was the start of AP Jones’ winter sale and it was packed!

Breakfast behind us, we went home so I could get some work done before my ladies meeting.  I didn’t stay too long at it because I had more work to do and also the house looked like a bomb had hit it!

So this afternoon I had a chance to do some housework, before meeting Julian for a walk. We walked further than planned. It’s always interesting to look at the houses other people are building. There are some building pitfalls we need to look out for. We passed one house which has a garage but no access. It’s a bit tricky getting into your garage when there are gabion baskets and a massive rock blocking the way….

I’m going to enjoy seeing how this pans out!

Last night the three of us watched a Grand Designs, New Zealand, where a couple had a home with a beautiful view on a large hillside plot. The house they were living in was built 20 years ago at the back of the plot. They realised they could subdivide the plot and build another house right at the front, hanging off a steep cliff. They completely under-estimated the cost of the ground works and foundations. These in the end cost in excess of $200000, blowing their budget. They ended up in deep financial difficulty, needing to borrow money to complete the build.  As their build was similar in many ways to ours, it was quite an eye opener. We are blessed to be in Cape Town where costs are not nearly as high and our piling has already been done which is a big plus. I got a message today to say that our Land Use Application is chugging through the system. Some of these delays are frustrating but the timing will work out perfectly in the end.

Julian and I also walked to the end of Fish Hoek Beach and back. It was  5km in the end.

I can’t argue that it’s been a lovely winter’s day.

Leviticus 26:12

I will walk among you and will be your God, and you shall be My people.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
