Breaking News!

2-04pm

The world’s media, over the last 2 weeks has zig-zagged from the South African High Court in Pretoria where an intense murder court case is under way to an extremely remote part of the Southern Indian Ocean where a massive hunt is on the go. One involves a disabled South African athlete. The other an aeroplane that mysteriously disappeared 16 days ago.

Oscar Pistorius murder trial has taken a turn in that it has now been extended to May. Today is the 14th day of the now infamous trial. A new witness, another neighbour, Annette Stipp, who heard screams after the first shots were fired. It appears there have been a couple of discrepancies in her testimony from her first statement last year to what she has said in court today. The defense will not let those rest, I’m sure. I don’t know about others, but I find it difficult to hear the cross -examination. It sounds so almost ‘threatening’ and pushy and intimidating. MY heart races and I feel all nervous for the witness and I’m sitting at home watching! What must they feel? It came to mind what the Bible says about judging cases and witnesses. Deuteronomy 19:15 “One witness is not enough to convict anyone accused of any crime or offense they may have committed. A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses”.
I’d have to look a little harder to find cases of cross examination. The problem with our world is that there is very little trust.

Right now, at Pretoria High Court, things are hotting up because they are busy looking at the messages on the phone. They say there were 343 pages of messages and phone chats between Pistorius and Reeva on Reeva’s phone. 10 pages are relevant to the case. It will be interesting to see what happens. Meanwhile on CNN, the breaking news was all about the missing plane…

Breaking NewsAirplanes looking for the debris in the sea identified from the satellite photos have spotted large chunks of something in the ocean. One they said was orange and another grey/green….this is the Wikipedia photo of the missing plane…

Malaysian airline 9M-MRO Wikipedia picThe debris could be a container from a ship. Apparently there is a lot of rubbish in the sea, some of it very big. A ship is racing to the area to try and identify it. So this story is developing too.

On the sporting front, I am biting my nails this afternoon as the T20 match between South Africa and New Zealand comes to an end. We lost to Sri Lanka the other day and now it looks like New Zealand is going to win. New Zealand are batting & need 7 runs to win.  There are only 5 balls left! Dot ball.  4 balls left. Steyn is bowling. Helga’s palms are sweaty. Dot ball. 3 balls left. This is down to the wire! 4 runs! 3 runs to win off 2 balls. Looks like this may be the end of South Africa’s attempt at this years T20 World Cup. Alan Donald looks devastated. Steyn in – 2nd last ball & it’s A WICKET!!  OUT!!! To win New Zealand need 3 off the last ball. Such an awkward number! They need a boundary off the last ball. Everyone is looking stressed. New Zealand camp is stony faced. Steyn in….last ball. In comes Steyn… pounding heart…sweaty palms. Steyn looks determined. Here we go. This could go any way. It’s down to the wire… AAAAAAAH!!!!  RUN OUT!!!!!!!

SOUTH AFRICA WINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh man!! What a match.
