Boosted!

Tuesday

Today was the day…

I went and got my J&J Booster shot.

I had to go to Claremont to get it, so I took advantage of a slightly slower work day to take Julian to the airport (he usually Ubers) and on the way back, I went to the Kingsbury and slipped through the system like a knife through soft butter. Quick and easy.  The injection itself was sore and I felt slightly woozy but not as bad as the initial vaccine. With the first one I had a horrible headache for a day.

Meanwhile, I spotted this story on CNN. They conclude it’s too early to say, but I did enjoy reading this…

Let’s hope for the best.

The other thing that happened today is we swam. I have always thought to myself that if I heard a Great White was back, I’d be more cautious about where I swam, so today I tried putting that into practice. We went down at 8am, but the shark net had not yet been put out, so I swam in the shallows towards the lighthouse. The fishermen were at work so I turned around and by the time I got back to the beach, the net was being pulled out. I got to swim to the barrel and back a couple of times, completed 30 minutes and 1.5km and my swim was done. The locals are always full of stories. The big talking point was the (great white) shark that had been spotted off Strandfontein. That quickly led to a recollection of those who lost their lives to shark attacks at Fish Hoek – Tyna Webb 15th November 2004 & Lloyd Skinner – 12 January 2010.  Now that I’m swimming, I see how variable conditions can be. They say Tyna was 150m out. How dangerous that is depends on how how the tide is. At very low tide 150m is still in pretty shallow water. The attack on Lloyd was seemingly more aggressive because it is  documented that he was standing in chest deep water.  I had always been led to believe he was in the corner section close to the cat walk, but one of the locals said he was further along the beach. These attacks will never be forgotten and are regularly spoken about. The paddlers are a big presence at Fish Hoek all year round and add a lot more eyes to what’s in the ocean. They are always on the lookout.

The wind has picked up this evening and it’s expected to blow gales tomorrow and Thursday so I don’t think I’ll be in the water again before Friday. We’ll see. Maybe it will surprise us.

Ron and Prudence have spent a few nights in the cottage. Ron is Stacey’s Father-in-law. It was great to see them and I hope they will come again. They are always welcome.

Romans 3:24

God, in His grace, freely makes us right in His sight. He did this through Jesus Christ.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
