A chunk of my morning was dealing with a blocked loo! These things happen. I contacted a number of plumbers and the one that could come the earliest got the (awful) job!
He came at about 8-45am and left by 10am. The cost was R400 and it was worth every cent!
As I watched and saw him struggle to deal with the problem, I pondered on all the muck that often filters through our lives. Like the grass roots which had finally caused a massive obstruction in our pipes, the mess that sin causes can be so destructive, ugly and messy to deal with.
Sin is where it begins.
When the first little roots from the grass started wangling their way into the pipes, there was no change in the flow. We didn’t even know they were there. They were the equivalent of tiny bouts of sin…the ones of which we say, ‘no one will ever know’ and ‘I’m not doing any harm.’ Those first few roots appeared harmless.
But the root system got bigger and bigger and just like small sin has the ability to blow out of control, eventually something had to give. The toilet blocked! To deal with the blockage was difficult, ugly, time consuming and very very messy. “Ewwww,” came to mind a number of times.
Sometimes that’s what happens when we have to sort out the sin in our lives. The horrible, dark muck that has caused a major mess of our relationships, our families and our lives can be dealt with, but it is often difficult, ugly, time consuming and very very messy. “Ewwww,” may come to mind many times.
But it can be done.
And as the problem got sorted and the blockage was cleaned up, in the same way we can resolve the difficulties our sin has caused.
Today, the drain pipes in our plumbing system got a fresh new start.
When we deal with sin in our lives and clean out all the muck that has hurt those around us, we too can get a new beginning.
There are a number of Bible verses that show God’s amazing love for us in sorting out our sin…
Romans 5:8
“But God shows His love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.”
1 John 1:9
“If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.”
Lamentations 3:21-23
But this I call to mind, and therefore I have hope: The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; His mercies never come to an end; they are new every morning; great is Your faithfulness.
Regardless of what has gone on in your life, it’s never too late for a change.
Sin will take you farther than you want to go, keep you longer than you want to stay, and cost you more than you want to pay.
Deal with it today.
God will help you. He says to you:
Isaiah 43:19
See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
God never wastes pain. He will bring a fresh stream out of a wasteland.
To God be the glory.
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
