Beautiful Day Drew the Crowds

Sunday

Today was the day…

We woke up late and went to the beach at about 9am. The water was 14C. Underwater visibility was better than it has been recently. The tide was low. It was altogether a beautiful day.

Getting home, we had breakfast and then had a nice long video chat with the Swellendam family.

Mike made spaghetti bolognaise for lunch and in the afternoon, I watched David live streaming on Twitch before walking down to the village for some milk. Before I left, I had been keeping an eye out on the ocean for any signs of whales and hadn’t seen anything that looked whalish, so imagine my surprise when I got to Simon’s Town road and found a traffic jam…someone had spotted what they thought was a whale.

I too scanned the sea, but all I could see was the fin of a seal. Maybe that was the centre of their attention! One person did say, ‘oh there’s a splash right here!’ pointing close to the shore. It was the casting of the fisherman’s line! On I walked only to encounter the local photographers by the Sunny Cove bridge scanning sea looking for an elusive Southern Right whale that had apparently been in the area. The problem with these massive sea creatures is that they spend so much time under water – they come up to the surface for mere moments before diving down again and coming up a kilometer further out. They are very easy to miss.

The beautiful day had certainly drawn crowds of people to the beach. No restaurants are open for sitting down at the moment, but the beach take-aways were doing a roaring trade. The car park was full and the social distancing line wound its way along the road.  The tide was high.

And on the cat walk on my way home, I passed a merry bunch of locals, happy to say hello and wave at the camera!

Still no sight of whales! 🐳

Amazing!

And for a throwback, someone posted this picture onto Facebook. Sport photo at the first high school I went to…I am in the third row from the front…third from the right.

It’s been a good weekend.

2 Chronicles 15:2

The Lord is with you while you are with Him. If you seek Him, He will be found by you.

The best is yet to come – we are only passing through.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
