A Quiet Day

Today is a quiet day. The main reason is that Mike has gone off to do some training with the company for whom he wrote the computer system. So the house is enormously quiet. Even the cat is confused. The buzz of two people is reduced by half and there are no hourly tea meetings in the kitchen.

I have managed to do 8 hours of work Monday, Tuesday and even yesterday, but now even work is quiet, so I’ve only done 2 hours and 20 minutes today.  There is more to come a little later. The business of today revolves around some domestic chores. I went out for 45 minutes and have just got in. I have to go out in an hour for another chore and then will stop by the grocery store to pick up some dinner. With me working as many hours as I have, Mike has done an amazing job sorting dinner this week. Monday he made a large pot of spaghetti bolognaise sauce, which he had with spaghetti and I had with vegetables both Monday and Tuesday evening. Then last night he took a shortcut and got ready made chicken broccoli. Today I have to do something.  I thought I would cook cherry tomatoes and chopped mushrooms and some pasta shells (for Mike) and I would have the tomatoes and mushrooms with mixed vegetables for me. The trick is to stir basil pesto through the mix at the last moment and serve it with liberal grated cheese.

So that’s my plan. 80% of dinner issues are resolved when you know what to make! Cooking is only 20% of the problem.

Things will be busier next week for two reasons. The first is that we are placing an advert in 5 newspapers across the country this weekend and one newspaper next.

We should get some response from it and I will be following up all applicants. You can feel free to pass this information on. We are looking for qualified teachers – those with relevant Bachelor of Education degrees in Maths/Science. If you are primary school trained, we can possibly place you as well, but our focus for these positions is for maths and science teachers. But if you have a relevant BEd degree eg. Foundation phase, primary, English, Maths or Science and you are keen to teach in the Middle East, email ADECSA@edvectus.com and I’ll catch up with you once you have followed the registration process.

You must be motivated. I have told a lot of people that happiness comes from within. You have to live with yourself and your circumstances wherever you are in the world, be in South Africa or the Middle East. There are hardships wherever you go. There are challenges wherever you go, so learn contentment. If you are not sure, don’t apply. If you are young and single and want to teach, earn and travel, then this opportunity is probably shouting your name.

There is a lot of paperwork to get through. If you are very determined to teach overseas, make it a priority to get your documents in order – we need colour copies of your passport, SACE certificate, degree and academic record. We will also need a CV on the Edvectus CV template – when you email ADECSA@edvectus.com you will get an auto response which gives you  step by step guidance to the process. The CV template is linked to that email. Even now, it would be a good idea for you to go to the police station and get police clearance because you will need that and it takes ages to arrive.

The one thing about the UAE is that you can celebrate Christianity, along as you don’t proselytise. You will probably be kicked out the country if you stood on the street corner and preached the gospel. But there are churches & Bible studies to attend.  You just have to be discreet.

In Matthew 28:20 words of Jesus,

“And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

Whatever you do, wherever you go, you don’t go alone.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
