A Power Struggle Of Note…

1-26pm

It’s been a thought provoking day so far. As I sit and ponder what to write today, I keep coming back to thinking of how much we judge each other. With Barrack Obama’s whistle stop visit to Cape Town, came a barrage of criticism and complaint against him and his government. Yet, he seems like a really good man with a really nice wife and family. But the higher you go, the greater the criticism. I know that most fundamental, evangelical American Christians are avidly against the present Democratic American administration. The competition and tension between the Republicans and Democrats is stiff and aggressive.  It’s a power struggle of note.

And of course, it’s not only in the US that this happens. It’s the world over, including in South African politics.  And it’s in some of our workplaces and in some of our churches and even in some of our homes. A power struggle of note!  With power comes accountability.

Jesus says in Luke 12:48 “For everyone to whom much is given, from him much will be required…”

Eventually each of us will have to give an account of our actions and what we have done with our resources.

Ultimately the way to behave is to follow the Biblical instruction to love one another. That ‘golden rule’ is bandied about so much, that it almost has lost its impact. Yet when you look at 1 Corinthians 13 to find out what love is, you find it to be a list of adjectives that we struggle to find coming out of politics or positions of power:

4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Somehow, it’s a sad indictment on our society how we don’t feel any love like this!

And here I am falling into the same trap…I’m judging our society, instead of looking into my heart and seeing how I can change. And that is where it begins! With each one of us, putting aside ‘self-seeking’ and putting others first, protecting, trusting, hoping and persevering.

It is only by God’s grace. Let’s be the change.

We had a lot of rain in the first half of last week. This week, no rain is forecast. On Friday, I went to Clovelly Golf Course and found it very soggy, but quite idyllic…Clovelly golf courseYou can always find a magnificent spot in Cape Town!

I’m going to have a snooze now and shake off that scratchy throat,  headachy, post-nasal drip kind of feeling. Tomorrow  I have to be well, first for the Rise and Shine show and then for SUSHI!

God bless you loads!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
