A New Journey

Today marks the start of a new journey.

I left home mid morning on a cold and rainy spring day.

My destination was close to the Cape Town City Centre, just off Somerset Road…Enamel Dentistry…

I had two appointments – first with the dentist – then the oral hygienist. The dentist I saw is young and progressive. There are new ways and means of dealing with teeth. He’s a dental artist of note.  Enamel has 63 online reviews. 62 people give it 5 stars. One gives it 4. I saw Dr Botha. He is unassuming and approachable. He examined my teeth and explained what no dentist has ever explained before. He says, because of  my overbite,  my bottom teeth are biting on my top gum and slowly pushing my top teeth forward. He says over time, it’s going to cause problems – it’s going to ruin my front teeth and possibly result in me losing them. The bottom line is that he doesn’t deal with this and so he referred me to an orthodontist. I tried making appointment with the Dr he suggested, but he’s fully booked until November, so I am on a waiting list.  Dr Botha asked me if I was averse to braces! It is what it is. If that’s what it takes, I’ll have to grin and bear it …literally!

I’ll know more when I get to see the orthodontist.

Cost for Dr. Botha consultation: R480  for 30 minutes.

Next it was onto the oral hygienist who gave me a deep clean. When were you last at the oral hygienist? Me too. Haven’t been for years.

I do floss though, but she said there patches of hard plaque and that would irritate my gums. It’s the reason why my gums still bleed when I floss. They are irritated by the plaque. That was 45 tough minutes, but my teeth are now very clean.

Cost for the Oral Hygienist Jolandi (who was very gentle) : R820 for a 45 minute session – deep cleanse.

Home in the rain and I got about 2.5 hours of work done this afternoon. Mike and I went for a walk early evening. The Sun Valley Pond is looking wonderful….

This evening we went to the Sun Valley Neighbourhood Watch AGM. I am seriously NOT an AGM person. The main reason I went to this one is because last year when we were  burgled, the SV NHW was brilliant. They showed us so much support. They came and helped us patch up the wall when the thugs broke it and they staked out our house and caught the main perpetrator.  Now we go to most of their monthly meetings and attended the AGM this evening.

When we left, Mike felt like a burger, so we stopped by the Spur and grabbed him a takeaway. He made me hot chocolate when we got home. Mike makes the best hot chocolate.

#893 of my 1000 thanks – Mike’s hot chocolate. Oh yeah!

I feel as if I have sucked the  marrow out of this day!

Psalm 41:13

Praise the Lord, the God of Israel, who lives from everlasting to everlasting.

These are the days.

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂

Gym:

  • 30 minute bike ride
  • 30 minute Grid – heart rate at the end was only 141. This was surprising seeing as I had sweat dripping off my chin after the bike ride. I think it was because we had a couple of exercises lying down.
  • 5 minute cool down cycle
