A Grown-Up Christmas! van Niekerk Food and Festivities.

5-18pm

Today has been what I can describe as a ‘grown-up’ Christmas! Grown-up because when we woke up this morning, we didn’t need to get up, but could laze in bed enjoying coffee and mince pies. I got up and made a festive fruit platter…

We had an absolutely lovely midnight service last night at Fish Hoek Methodist Church. It was very special. This morning we stayed home with Granny. I took her tea and mince pies as well as one of her favourite fruit, grapefruit.  Once David was home from his  church service, we all gathered in the lounge for present opening! We usually hand out all the presents and then once everyone has their pile, everyone opens simultaneously. Today, David suggested each of us open a gift while everyone watches to see their reaction. It was a great idea. Granny loved her new foot spa…

David was also impressed with his gifts…

Dinner was cooked…glazed ham..

Accompanied by roast lamb, roast potatoes, carrots, beans, cauliflower cheese, cranberry sauce, mint sauce and gravy. The first round of dessert was chocolate mousse and cream garnished with cherries. The second round of dessert was trifle…

The Pointsettia Jack and Lynwen gave me for my birthday looked good on the table…

Very festive.

Julian and I sorted out the kitchen chaos. Then we had coffee and a little later on this afternoon we enjoyed another snack…

As I was putting out chips and chocolates, it reminded me of preparations for a child’s party…then I remembered it was!

Luke 2:10-11 says “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you: He is Christ the Lord…”

It’s been a lovely Christmas Day. I am grateful!

It is not over yet.Julian and I intend going for a walk, although the wind is blowing a bit down here in the far south. I could do with some exercise!

I think if I had gone onto www.myfitnesspal.com and captured all my calories, it would have been very very bad! So yesterday and today, I’ve turned a blind eye! Tomorrow, I will return to counting calories!

Just for the record, I missed Stacey & Adrian!

Merry Christmas!

Lots of Love

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
