A Day In Johannesburg

Today has been a really varied day. We got up quite late, specially for me, it was about 7-30am. After lounging around and then getting dressed, we set off for the local popular eatery for a croissant. The first thing that met us as we walked onto the side-walk was this….a couple of branches had broken off a tree across the road and were altogether blocking one half of the road…

The sun was warm. The walk was pleasant. #986 of my 1000 thanks  – I’m grateful for TREES! They add such beauty to the world…a magnificent oak in Norwood Johannesburg.

Julian’s bookshop is also in Norwood. Most of his book sales are online www.chapter1.co.za but he has this little nook where people walk in off the street as well as  locals may arrange to collect any books he sells online.

Julian is a wealth of information when it comes to books. He sources the most amazing books. Today we were looking at this one….

As I paged through it, I was amazed that I was turning pages that were nearly 230 years old…It was published in Dublin in 1790.

How they wrote in those days was really interesting.  They used the letter f where there was a soft s. Where there was a hard s, they used the letter s as we know it. If the s was at the start of the word or in the middle, f was used.  Looks and sounds really strange!

Then Julian produced a Bible that dates back to 1687. Included in the Psalms was some music on how that particular psalm should be sung…

Fascinating. He certainly is the most knowledgeable person I know when it comes to books.  I think it is true to say that he is the biggest online second-hand book dealer in Africa.

We had a wonderful lunch together and then left for the airport. Our flight was uneventful and on time. Our car was parked at the airport safe and sound. We walked in the door at 8-10pm.  Truffles was happy to see us.

1 Corinthians 14:33

God is not a God of confusion but of peace.

These are the days!

Keep the smile going.

God bless you.
