It is not easy to find something inspirational every day! Sometimes, my mind starts wandering and I start clicking away on my keyboard and words spew out that are encouraging, but for that to happen, I need to be relaxed. Most times when I sit down to ‘do the blog’ it’s under pressure to get it posted so I can go onto the next thing, which is usually show prep and then dinner. So I get to this hour and find myself thinking, “what I am I going to write?” Surely, I can only post only so many pictures of having coffee with friends (although today was justified as we were celebrating Erica’s birthday!)
So what do I write? How can one get inspired EVERY single day. The answer comes from the Bible. I believe it has the answer to all of life’s questions. It is filled with nuggets of amazing wisdom – God’s principles for living that transcend generations. And today I found one of them that I had never seen before. It came out of the Old Testament book of Judges. Possibly written by Samuel 1000 years before the birth of Christ, it traces the journey of the Israelites into sin and the scary consequences of their behaviour. The verse that caught my eye was from Judges 3:2
“He (God) did this only to teach warfare to the descendants of the Israelites who had not had previous battle experience.”
The new generation of Israelites had not experienced any of the wars in Canaan. So the Lord allowed other nations and people groups to stretch the Israelites to teach them warfare, and then verse 4 says, “to see whether they would obey God’s commands.”
When the Pakistani Intelligence Agent interrogated Osama Bin Laden’s 3 wives, nothing of any interest came up. They were loyal to their husband. They said nothing to harm his name or reputation. They did not change their mind. Even though he was dead, they did not jump camp.
When we are faced with pressure, with stress, with a desert experience, keep trusting God. Keep obeying Him. I am reminded of Deuteronomy 8:2
“Remember how the LORD your God led you all the way in the wilderness these forty years, to humble and test you in order to know what was in your heart, whether or not you would keep His commands.”
God is leading us. He is looking to see if we are humble; to see what is in our heart and to see if we will obey Him.
No matter what battles you face, God is leading & strengthening you. Obey Him, no matter what!
Good thing to remember.
