Summer has come and with it a strong south-easter. There’s nothing worse than when you park your car, get out and have the wind whip the door and smack it against the car in the neighbouring bay! It’s so annoying when that happens, even more so, when you notice a slight nick in the other car’s paintwork. On Monday, that’s what happened to my friend, who I’ll call M. She was M for mortified!
M didn’t have a pen and piece of paper to leave a note, so she continued with her shopping, pondering what had happened. When she got back to her car, the other was still there. She felt a bit sick, but didn’t know what to do. She had to go to another shop a little drive away, so she moved her car to the other side of the mall, feeling really guilty that she hadn’t done anything about it. When she got there, she decided to comfort herself with the Word of God, so she opened her reading for the day. This is what she read (1 Peter 2:16)
Act as free men, and do not use your freedom as a covering for evil…
Oh dear! She knew she had to try and do something, so she walked (slowly) all the way back to where her car had been parked before she had moved it. As she approached it, an older lady came out of the mall and walked towards the boot of the car that had been dented. (How’s that for timing?!). M approached her and told her what had happened, pointing out the ding and apologising. The lady said, ‘Thank you for letting me know. This is not my car – it actually belongs to my daughter and she would have been furious if I had done that to it!’. M, not having a pen and piece of paper to write down her name, gave the lady her business card, with details of her ‘child-care’- related business on it.
The next day, M got a phone call from the lady who had been driving the car. She wanted M to know that her daughter noticed that ding 6 months ago and it wasn’t her car door that caused it! M was so relieved, but imagine her surprise when the lady continued, “and my daughter has just had a baby and would like you to visit her to chat about the services you offer!”
What a story! One to remember! God is faithful, even when we are faithless. Live in obedience!
Keep the smile going!
God bless you!
