Yesterday as I arrived in Johannesburg I was struck by the green-ness of the landscape. Coming into land, everything was so green, it looked quite beautiful and in stark contrast to the dryness of the Cape. Anne, my sister was there to pick me up and we went back to her home to while away a couple of hours before heading for a special treat. She had booked ages ago for lunch at Jamie’s Italian Restaurant, Melrose Arch, which only opened in December. Those with whom she was due to go had to cancel, so was fortunate enough to be coming on the very day of the reservation and so off we went…
It was buzzing both inside and out. It has two floors with the top overlooking a steep stairwell. Be advised it is noisy.
We were seated at the top of the stairs. The service was excellent, attentive but not too attentive. I made a note of the time we put our order in and when we had been waiting a while, Victor the floor manager approached and asked how long we had been waiting for our food. I was able to tell him 18 minutes, at which point he looked shocked and was just about to rush off when he saw the meal arriving. Anne and I both had the lamb. It was really good.
We had tiramisu for dessert. We should have shared one – the portion was enormous. The prices were not bad considering the venue – the lamb was R160 – there were options for around R100. It is a popular place and Anne said that when she made the booking and got an email back, it states that tables of less than 6 must please not sit for longer than an hour and a half. No wonder the floor manager was keen to get us fed.
I would definitely go again, although maybe sitting downstairs or outside is quieter. And I wouldn’t have a whole dessert!
It was great spending time with Anne. She dropped me at Julian’s home where I had dinner with Jess and Gerrie.
While that was happening in Jo’burg, Julian was having dinner with Mike and David. 🙂
This morning I was up early and headed off to the Hyatt Regency for the next round of interviews which went off uneventfully. Now I’m back at Julian’s house and in about half an hour, Jess will take me to the airport. Home tonight and Johannesburg is done for another couple of months.
There are many things to be grateful for. When these trips come up, I’m a little anxious about things going wrong, including me falling sick before or during the trip. We have had family get flu and I really don’t want to catch it before one of these little outings.
#203 of my 1000 thanks is that everything went off without a hitch and I am well! 🙂
Psalm 37:34
Hope in the Lord and keep His way.
Such good advice, especially on interview day. Some will get through – others won’t. Whatever will be will be. My hope is in the Lord.
Off to the airport.
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
