What A Way To Start May…

2-05pm

When you start looking up the history of May Day or Workers’ Day as it is more accurately known, you soon discover it was inspired by the quest for shorter working hours. No labour for me today! It was the 5th and final day of Mike and my mini break, and we took advantage of it. We woke to Mike’s alarm going off at 7am. It’s very seldom that I sleep until 7am, so it was a real treat. Mike got up, fed the cat, made us coffee and then went back to sleep again. I did my Bible reading and faffed around on the internet and then went and made breakfast for us. I woke Mike up with a tray of eggs, bacon, tomato, mushrooms and toast. That’s two days in a row, not that I’m counting ;-), because he made the first coffee. I made the second coffee and he has made the third! Three cups of coffee and it’s only 2pm! The reason for this is up until the third cup, we have only had decaff in stock, so we can drink more! Ā Mike got up to do some computer work and I stayed in bed, reading. I had a constant companion….

Sleeping beauty…who wandered outside for a short while, before returning and is now curled up in a ball in the middle of the bed. She did have a break from sleeping to clean herself. Ahhh, it’s a cat’s life!

Finally, I got up and went shopping and remembered to buy coffee with caffeine. I got one of Mike’s favourites – Caturra – Mocha Java. He made it quite strong and now I am buzzing! I have also done a load of washing, which I will soon go and put on the line.

So altogether it has been a real lazy day! šŸ˜€

I think if I had to choose a Bible verse from my reading this morning, I would choose an unexpected one:

Judges 13:9 “God heard Manoah”…

Who the heck is Manoah? It’s such an interesting beginning to a well known story. Manoah’s wife (who was infertile) had an angel of the Lord appear to her regarding the son she would soon bear. She told her husband Manoah and Manoah prayed asking the Lord for the angel to appear to him as well, so it could be confirmed. That’s where this verse comes in. Although God heard Manoah, when the angel appeared again, it was again to Manoah’s wife and she ran off to get Manoah who could then confirm it.

Two things:

1. You may feel you are a bit obscure, like Manoah’s wife, but God values you as much as He valued this famous Mother – Jewish literature names her asĀ Hatzlelponi -she became the mother of Samson. God chooses the humble things of this world to confound the wise.

2. God heard Manoah – God hears you too! Don’t ever think the prayers you pray go unanswered. For an incredible reminder of God making Himself known after prayer, listen to this story from the Middle East…

Letter from Dubai April 2013

To God be the glory! Every prayer you pray is heard!

In His grip,
