Yes, today we give thanks. Apart from the pouring rain that came down overnight, David met up with Stacey’s brother -in-law at the rendezvous point and is back on the N2…
With the temperatures in the Western Cape about to plummet to freezing point, heading home was the sensible thing to do. He had a good cycle, met people, tested his fitness physically, mentally and emotionally and succeeded.
#351 of my 1000 thanks is for David’s safety! In fact he is back in Cape Town. The David tracker absolutely served its purpose! I’m going to miss Google stalking my son! 🙂
Meantime, back at our home, Mike went downstairs to make coffee early this morning only to see the stray black and white cat bolt past him and into the garage. Mike simply closed the garage door trapping said cat until we could put him out later. He has been a nuisance, coming into the house and eating Truffles’ food. I’m not sure where he comes from but when I went to take the car out, he was meowing piteously. We could not find him. I reversed the car out so we could have a closer look and as soon as the car was outside, he was no longer heard. In the end, I concluded he had climbed into the engine and the moment I stopped the car outside the garage, he dropped down and fled, not to be seen again!
It’s been a relaxing day. Julian came for lunch and then I took him to the airport. We managed a quick walk to the Sun Valley Pond, which looked like it had a little more water in it after the rain.
On the way back from the airport, I had a bit of a flashback while driving down the N2. Table Mountain loomed ahead and my mind went back to the day I arrived in Cape Town back in 1982. I had never been here before. I had spent some time earlier in the year researching Cape Town, reading novels set in the city and reading books about South Africa. I was in wonderment at arriving in this majestic city. The mountain that stood tall then remains the same today. I had read about it and on that day in December of 1982 I saw it for the first time.
There was such a difference between reading about the city and actually being in it.
I remember driving along Chapman’s Peak Drive for the first time (actually it was on the back of a motorbike) and wanting to pinch myself. Was this really my new home. How blessed I felt that of all the places in the world, God would choose Cape Town for me. As I drove along the N2 back from the airport, I was struck at how I read and study the Bible and know that one day I will be in heaven.
There is going to be vast difference between reading about that city and actually being in it.
Hebrews 11:16
Instead, they were longing for a better country–a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for He has prepared a city for them.
That better country, that heavenly one that God has prepared for me is going to be glorious indeed. It will be worth the wait.
These are the days!
Keep the smile going.
God bless you!
In His Grip,
Helga xx 🙂
