We All Have A Story To Tell!

2-42pm

Today, I went through my regular early routine, cooking breakfast at work! Here we go! Breakfast is served!

Breakfast is servedAfter the show, I had a proposal to do and then beetled off to town. First stopped in Rondebosch and then onto see Granny at the Ladies Christian Home. The ladies are all very sweet. Granny is in the mentally frail unit where the residents have some degree of dementia. They are so child-like and caring…like these two…holding hands…

Two of the ladies at LCHSo sweet. I took Granny outside in the garden and found a sheltered spot in the sun. She ate fruit salad and we watched this very tame rock pigeon coming closer and closer…

Very tame rock pigeonAfter a while, it became a bit hot in the sun, so we moved into the shade and that was when Nettie Alberts came past. She explained that she needs to sit with the sun shining on her knitting or else she wouldn’t be able to see it. She has problems with her eyes. We all have a story to tell. Nettie explained that she is 88 (Granny’s age) and despite her eyesight, she has set herself a goal (at 88, nogal!) to knit 16 pairs of bedsocks before the end of May. She is on her 12th pair!!! Good for Nettie! She said the socks are for the patients,  ‘and they don’t know’, she intimated. She told me she is diabetic and has had cancer! “And,” she said, “I can’t hear that well, but despite all of that, God is good! And if He spares me, after I’ve finished the 16 pairs of bedsocks, I hope to knit some more for a few other people!”  Apart from getting her name, it was quite tricky to get much more information as she was seriously hard of hearing, but what I did garner is that she is never married. She must have been a real ‘go-getter’ in her day, if at the age of 88, she is still setting goals!

It reminds me of the Bible verse that someone called into the Rise and Shine show this morning. Isaiah 46:4  “Even to your old age and gray hairs  I am He, I am He who will sustain you. I have made you and I will carry you; I will sustain you and I will rescue you.”

Nettie clearly is ready to die, but she is making good use of her time while alive and God is sustaining her.

What’s your story?

God bless you!

In His Grip,

Helga xx 🙂
